Why am I DOING this???
I have to keep telling myself that it's for the greater good, it will set me up to get closer to where I want to be in the near future, it's what my brain needs to grow academically and to pull together some ideas that formed during my BA undergrad and Honours degrees, that DP has been supporting me and I'd be letting down the team if I don't finish it yaddiyaddiyaddah.
This assignment is now two days overdue (though I reckon I can get a special consideration...again...), I've had two hours sleep in two days running and I"m nearly there with wordcount, but I've just realised that I have to rehash a lot of what I've written to more clearly meet the criteria!
AAAAAAAAAARGH! If I thougt I was doing this just to prove something, I'd drop it right now, because I hate that I can't give Oscar my fuller attention, I hate that I can't earn more money because I can't allow anything to cut into my due date periods, I hate that if I go to see my horse I feel guilty because I should be desk-bound catching up on missed reading.
I know I can do it, I'm just sleep-deprived (Ha! Smug lady who told me before Oscar was born that sleep-loss from study is not a patch on baby-induced sleep loss was so way off...all-nighters at the computer account for 95% of my annual sleep-loss!! And are far more painful the next day).
Just venting. Sometimes it doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world to just pack it in, cut my losses and sell Tupperware! But then I know that it's not what I really want to do...
grrrr...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Maya! Calm down girl!!!!!!!!!!!!
No.1 you know as well as I do that all you need is some time to re-read your work! Tell DP to take Oscar for a walk or out for the day, just so you can read through this assignment and pass it in! I know how much you love having Oscar near, but seeing as you have to get this done, you are going to have to bite the bullet!
No. 2 Oscar will be proud of you when you finish it, when he starts school, he can say that his mummy is soooooooooooo smart and she went to University! She knows Everything!!!!!!!!

Hugs Mayaness. I so hear you on the sleep deprivation bit, although mine's from a combination of factors. What you really need is a couple of hours of "you" time, to recharge those batteries. I suggest you ask for the extension, then take some guilt-free time (either with Oscar, your horse, having a massage or sleeping). Then, burn some concentration essential oils and settle down to get the assignment finished. You will so much better for it. And you will be one step closer to finishing your course. You CAN do this, and you know you WANT to do this, you just need a break. Hang in there, the end is in sight.

Oh Mayaness, I so hear you!
I have just finished my second assignment and I have another due in three weeks as well as a prac to do which I wanted to get done by the end of the year but that most likley won't happen. I am sooo behind on my readings and if I pass these two assignments I have just done I will be forever greatful!! I thought now that the assignment was finished, I could catch up on a bit of sleep, but now my DD is teething and last night I was up every hour, as well as the little party my princess had between 4-5am. Then we were up at 6.30 anyway. I am SOOOO tired my eyes are hanging out of my head!
In other words I can sympathise! Good luck with your assignment. :D
Melanie, great advice. I think I'll take that up for my next assignment!

I hear ya! I'm only doing one subject for one night a week and I just can't wait 'till it's over!
It's so hard to get in to it when there's so much other stuff (fun or not) to do.
All the best. Hope you get there!!

Mayaness - Stop "SHOULDING" on yourself for starters (I should be doing this...I should be doing that...etc!!) You can only do what you can, and the rest has to wait. Your baby is your priority and you are doing a fantastic job at being a mum!
I often wonder why I am doing this too. I have been studying for 6 years now, and it feels like I have such a long way to go! I am a huge procrastinator and often ask for extensions to then spend another few days procrastinating and end up finishing it the night before!
I have found it really useful to set myself a study timetable and make sure I keep up with the reading weekly (like doing it last thing at night, in bed, or getting up a bit earlier than the kids to spend half an hour reading), and set out my assignments at the start of the semester so that I can keep track of what is due at what time. I am a control freak though, so this may not suit you, but I find it the only way to keep up with the workload!
I hope you got it finished!!

Just about to fax it now! Phew!
I had a very kind friend proofread it and now it's ready to go...
and then to bed!!
Thanks everyone - so good to know that there's a few of us who are in the same boat (well, I may be the worst offender for late submissions, but not the only student with my eyes hanging out of my head!) here on BB :)
I did read your replies, and decided to keep on track by just reading responses and not adding to them till this thing was done! Good night...
-
Congrats Mayaness and well done! I hope you can enjoy some rest now.
-
Oh Maya, I know howw you feel :) Such a relief when it is done. Now focus on the end goal and stay positive!
-
Congrats Mayaness,
Now sit down and relax for five minutes! Easier said than done with a toddler, I know!!!
-
Hey, thanks everyone :) I made it through the semester to pass the unit I wanted to pass (I withdrew from one to lighten my load...thank goodness, cos Oscar got really sick that week!).
Not a great mark, but dammit, it's a pass!
-
Woohoo. And you won't need to sell tupperware the rest of your life!
