Working from home & baby
Hi
I work at home, just desk-job, and thinking I should talk to my employer soon about taking time off for the birth. For the moment we can't afford for me not to work, so would be looking to take a few months off then start again, while also being SAHM.
Anybody out there in a similar situation who can offer some advice? I mean, can this work ok? Am I kidding myself?
Thanks in advance

Hi Marcellus,
It is difficult. I work from home for three days. DH does two days with DS and he goes to daycare for one day. I started at 3 months. I don't know how I could do it if my DH didn't do half the time. They really suck up your time! Perhaps you could do work from home at times when your DH is home. Or could consider daycare some days? It is a bit emotionally hard to separate from them as well.
How many hours are you considering doing?

Hi, thanks for your reply
at this point i have no idea what DH is going to be doing, so he might be able to help, he might not. My hours are totally unpredictable. some days just a 2-3 hours of work, others it's more like 12-14... can get very hectic. My employer is pretty flexible though, so could probably get some leeway. The bigger problem i guess is strict deadlines for work - it's not like I can leave baby hanging for hour or so while I get something finished.
Yeah, I think i'd better look into daycare.
Thanks,

I work from home currently (full time) and will be doing the same after I'm back from maternity leave
I don't think it's going to be easy - it's just me at home (DH works away from the house) and I'll have my mum coming in on some days (not full days, every day), but still. I'm not sure how it's going to work out, but it's just going to have to. We can't afford for me to stop working either - which is why I'm going back to quickly too (EDD Nov 1, going back to word late Dec).
Good luck xx

I'm just getting a small business up and running from home at the moment. I have a 3 yo and a 1yo so my kids are a bit older...but I'm finding it a "challenge" ahem!
Fortunately with what I'm doing it's quite flexible and I can do alot at night when the kids are in bed. If I had tight deadlines to contend with there is no way I don't think. If one of the kids is sick, or even if they're just having a day where they won't let you get anything done for whatever reason - I can just put it off until that night, the next day or a better time when DH is around. If you don't have that flexibility I would definitely look into daycare. I find even when DH is looking after the kids while I'm working, if I can hear one of them screaming or whatever I'm out there in a shot. It's distracting and I can't help myself lol.

Hi
Thanks all for your replies
I'm glad I posted this now cause I really hadn't thought it through...don't think I can work full time and be full-time mum. I'll talk to my boss soon and go from there, maybe look into daycare unless DH gets an awesome, huge-paying job... or we win lotto.
Thanks again,
