I didnt have a D&C I started bleeding and miscarried at 8 weeks, my baby died at 6 1/2 weeks. So I miscarried naturally. Never heard that there was a pill you could take now...so im sorry I dont know much about that. Honestly I would trust the doc and his advice not to have the D&C if you have complications. How far along where you when you m/c? I guess if it were me I would wait for a another week and if nothing happened go back to the Doc and ask for the pill if you are comfy taking it after you know whats in it?

bettyboop, firstly let me say how sorry I am to read of your loss. My thoughts are with you.
I had a M/C in 2001. Blighted ovuum. I started to have slight bleeding (dark brown) at 7 weeks. They did an U/S the next day and thought it was an early pregnancy as it was showing about 5weeks. I knew my dates weren't out so knew that this baby wasn't to be. They checked me again a week later and still no H/B. I decided to let nature take it's course. I bled up until 10 weeks like a light period. Then the morning of my next appointment I had such a gush and was filling a pad every half hour. By the time I got to the hospital it had all but stopped so I was pretty sure everything was over. Sure enough, the U/S revealed no retained products and I had miscarried completely.
I found that this was better for me. But remember, I was already bleeding so the miscarriage was already underway before I knew anything was wrong. I prefer to avoid a D&C if possible but it is an individual thing - everyone is different.
I hope this helps you in some way. I will be thinking of you.
Hugs,
Debbie

Hi Bettyboop
I'm sorry for the loss of your little angel :hugs:
I had a D and C, AND had the tablets (probably similar to what you were mentioning= misoprostol I think I had????)..I inserted the tablets the morning I went to have a D and C, a few hours before. My obst said these tabs would start to open up my cervix and just kinda help the process along a bit. My angel may have died a few weeks before and I hadn't experienced any bleeding or symptoms.
For me a D and C felt the thing to do because I couldn't face the thought of waiting and waiting for it to happen naturally. I was scared it was going to go on forever and I felt that it had already gone on for long enough.
Trust your doctor in showing you what you should do..if having a D and C sounds too dangerous in your case then follow his judgement. You don't want more complications to arise by having a risky procedure.
Thinking of you hun, hope this tough time gets easier for you very soon..
(In case it helps- after I had the tabs I had some mild cramping/aching and started to bleed. This happened about and hour and a half after taking them)

What did the doctor offer you in terms of medication? Personally, I prefer meds over surgery because it's less invasive, but there are risks associated with both. Actually, I like the natural way best of all, only it doesn't always work out that way. Best of luck!

with my lining being so thin and things didnot look like they were going to happen naturaly they said the pills is the best way to go, in the past i have never heard off them.

Bettyboop, I'm so sorry and very upset to hear of the loss of your little one. I don't know what to advise about the pills, except that if you're unsure to go back to your doctor for some more information or seek a second opinion from another specialist. :( I'm so sorry. Thinking of you.

bettyboop, just to let you know that I have had those tablets twice. First time when I had to birth my twin girls and the second time when I had to birth my previous pregnancy at 16 weeks. I had to have 3 lots the first time but the second time around it worked a lot quicker despite that fact that I wasn't so far along. I had no problems on either occasion.
Hugs,
Debbie

The pill that is used to induce a MC is not widely used in Australia. There have been a lot of political and legal issues surrounding its administration.
But used with caution under the strict observation of your Dr, I believe it would be a way of protecting your lining from the possible harshness of a D&C.
Has your Dr mentioned the name of the medication he would subscribe? It may be that he offers you Mifepristone followed by prostaglandin 2 days later?
Either way, I am really sorry for your loss. Its a tough time. xx

hi betty boop,
when I had my mc in august, the doc gave me two sublingual (under the tongue) tabs calls mifesporone (or something like that) an hour or two before my d&c, from what I could understand, this was just to open the cervix, thus giving them easier access to scrape and less chance of probs for me.
Is it an oral thing or the vaginal pessaries they have offered?
ps.
I had a missed m/c, seeing as I had carried the baby for that long (at least 4 wks) with nothing happening naturally, I was advised to go for d&c.
