laparoscopy on 3oth

Hi everyone
I'm going for a laparoscopy on 30th Oct in Perth and I was wondering if I'll have to do the bowel prep before I have it or does that depend on where they are looking?
I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago which was clear so I'm hoping that they won't need to clear my bowel again. Drinking the stuff was bad in itself but going to the toilet afterwards was awful!! We stayed in a room in the hospital's hostel with a shared bathroom and the poor guy next door didn't get a look in!!
I have a cyst by one of my ovaries and a high CA125 result and,after looking at the symptoms of endo,I wouldn't be surprised if I have that too.:rolleyes:

I had a laparoscopy late last month to remove a dermoid cyst that was in my ovary. No bowel prep for me and no mention of it either thank goodness. Just the usual fasting.

Good luck- I hope they don't find any endo!

Nope - no bowel prep for lap, just the usual 12 hour fasting like any op which requires a general. I have had the bowel prep twice (i have IBS) and it sucks doent it?!?! Goodluck hun

best of luck for the 30th and i hope you find some answers and get rid of that cyst. great news that your bowel was clear.

my first lap i didn't have any bowel prep, but the second one (with different specialist) they did get me to take this disgusting thing the night before but i must have an iron gut as it didn't clear my bowel at all before the op the next day (sorry if TMI). i had this fear i would loose control while under but was fine and it finally worked a day or so later.

my dr wanted me to have it to reduce any risks of infection if he happened to nip my bowel during the procedure.

can i ask what a CA125 result means?

Hi denise - goodluck for your laparoscopy! I had one a couple of months ago, and I was really happy with it. I didn't have any bowel prep or anything (wasn't even mentioned.)

Thanks everyone for your replies.I feel a bit happier now,the bowel prep is REALLY horrid and I don't want to do it again if I can help it!
Dusty,a CA125 is a tumor marker which can be high for various reasons apart from a tumor such as endo and ,also can be high during certain times of your period.It should be less than 35 and mine was 55. My doctor has said not to worry too much (!) and that's why he sent me to have the colonoscopy etc just to check everything out.
My sister had an ovarian cyst and a huge fibriod last year and had a hysterectomy so I think it runs in families,I have heard that somewhere I think. I'm OK with the idea of having my ovary out as I've got 2 teenage kids and don't plan on any more.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Mind if I ask the name of your laparoscopic surgeon in Newcastle? Australia I think? Did they perform a resection?
