Has anyone had to take provera and progynova after their +ve result?
Just looking for some reassurance that others have taken it and all will be fine.
If you did take either or both, how long were you taking it for?
I'm currently taking both, twice a day, and started after transfer.

Don't know what +ve result is, but I'm currently taking Provera and I keep bleeding irregularly, little bit for a few days then HUGE amounts for a while then nothing etc....
Apparently theres a good reason for it though!
+ve result - positive pregnancy test :)

When did your doc tell you to take this?! I'm currently on it to clear any debris from my womb, and a friend of mine was put on it for the same reason after she miscarried.

Just found this, which of course says the complete opposite...
You probably had the miscarriages due to antiphospholipid syndrome (due to the elevated cardiolipin antibodies). YOu definitely should take baby aspirin, Lovenox, and folic acid. That may help you get through the pregnancy. Provera is perfectly safe for use during pregnancy. We use Provera to help prevent miscarriage in early pregnancy and it is usually taken until 12 weeks gestation, when it is stopped because the placenta has formed and the placenta produces enough progesterone to maintain the pegnancy. Years ago, before we had the modern monoclonic pregnancy tests, we used Provera as a pregnancy test. If you did not bleed, you were pregnant.If you bled, you were not pregnant. Provera will cause you to get your period if you have missed your period due to hormonal imbalance. Provera will also stop your bleeding if you have some dysfunctional uterine bleeding (twice a day for five days). During pregnancy, Provera does not cause bleeding. Provera definitely does NOT cause a miscarriage and is definitely used during pregnancy, expecially if you have a low progesterone level. Your pharmacist was incorrect. Taking Lovenox, aspirin, and folic acid increases your chances of avoidinb miscarriage, but they are not foolproof.If you took these medications, you have done all you could to help.
Sorry to scare you hun - maybe I should just stop talking and advise you ask your doc?
My Fertility Specialist gave it to me to use in conjunction with Progynova and Crinone, which was then switched to progesterone pessaries after we had our first IVF cycle and egg transfer.
My other FS, has continued on with the drugs prescribed to me by the other FS.

Hi nic,
I guess the full name of provera is medroxyprogesterone acetate. It is a sort of synthetic progesterone. I don't know why your FS prescribed this to you as it is not recommended for pregnant women. Did you take it before pregnancy or during pregnancy? Can you tell me the daily dosage? How long did you take it for? Is there any side effects? Man y thanks!

may - a lot of IVF-er's are recommended to take provera or other progesterone supplements as a corpus luteum (the progesterone producing cyst remnant on the ovary after obulation) doesnt' occur due to the forceful nature of the egg being removed during egg pick up. progesterone support is usually used up until the placenta takes over hormonal support, at around the 12 week mark.
Do you mean that we can take provera until week 12 without any big risks? I am a bit confused as I just found some information from MedlinePlus Drug Information: Medroxyprogesterone
"Medroxyprogesterone should never be used to test for pregnancy or to prevent miscarriage during the first few months of pregnancy. Medroxyprogesterone has not been shown to prevent miscarriage and may harm the fetus."
May, I ending up taking the meds for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy. Can't help you out with the exact dosage, just that I was taking them all twice a day
May, i doubt a fertility specialist is going to prescribe something that will be harmful to a pregnancy!! i would trust my FS over something i've found on google any day - obviously they know what is right in the circumstances of MY pregnancy....
yep BG, That's what I had to remember, that my FS knew what he was doing.
