obstetrician appt 20 wks
Hey,
i have an appt at 4pm and have to provide a urine sample at each visit.
Is it compulsary to provide the first urine of the morning ?
As i thought that the urine last for 5 hours only before being able to do any test with it.
It will be my first appt in the afternoon.
Thanx for your help.

Hi Ti Lionne. I've never had to provide the first urine of the morning. In fact, all my Ob apppointments have been after work at about 4.45pm and I give the samples there so they are very late in the day samples. I think they only time you need to provide FMU is during a pregnancy test. Give them a call and check but I think you'll be fine.
Good luck with your pregnancy and hope all goes well, it goes soooo fast!

I provided samples for all my appointments, and it was mostly always a sample done not long before i headed off for the appointment. Never a first morning jobby.

what is the urine samples for? My ob only started asking me to bring a urine sample for next appointment and I am 26weeks. I will be 29 weeks or so for the first urine sample.

They don't need first morning urine for what they're testing for - they're just using dipstick tests to check the glucose and protein in your urine. They just dip a test strip into it and read the result from the colour :) Can be done anytime of day.

They only want the sample to test the amount of protein to catch any signs of pre-eclampsia early on. It doesn't have to be in the morning. Get used to it you will have to do lots more before your bub arrives
