Sore tailbone
Strange question..... but does anyone else have trouble with a very sore tailbone? Mine has been sore for a while and especially whilst I am at work. I don't have bad posture, but I do sometime catch myself not sitting very straight in the chair. I think I will have to bring in an extra cushion to sit on as it is getting quite bad lately.
Any help would be appreciated.... I will ask my OB but the next appointment isn't until 29 Jan....
Thanks,
Al

I had the same... have you had a tumble at any point, landing on your coccyx? (I think mine was from a Melb Cup too-much-champagne incident!!) My coccyx ended up curling back under, so through my entire pregnancy, I had pain there and could never seem to get comfy sitting down for longer than maybe 5 minutes and I would hang for the end of the day so I could lay horizontal in my bed - the only time I got pain relief with it! Only after baby was born, and the pain continued on after playing sport or exercising, did I realise it was not pregnancy-related and so went to the Dr. An XRay revealed my curled-under tail bone.
Find yourself an Osteo and go and pay them a visit. It took maybe 2 or 3 visits and my butt was suitably massaged and stretched enough for me to no longer suffer any pain!! (So worth it!) (Plus handy to have an Osteo you are comfy with for when bubs arrives so you can take them to get realigned after being squished through a small tunnel to enter this world!)
Good luck!

thanks - I might need to do that. I don't remember a fall, but I also don't remember when it started hurting..... good old pregnancy brain!!!! LOL

You can also get a sore tail-bone from lack of fibre. I had it when I was around 15 years old and for some stupid reason stopped eating bread/wheat for a few weeks and didn't like vegies. As soon as I started eating properly again the pain went away. Have you increased your fibre intake adequately for pregnancy?

I have the same problem and I have been thinking of bringing in a pillow (and maybe even one of those massager things! haha). I think it's just part and parcel with my office job, I'm in my chair all day, but I seem to feel it more now than I used to.

Question for you girls, is your pain a dull ache or a sharp pain? I've been having some sharp pain for a couple of weeks now. Not all the time, but today has been pretty bad :(

Hi Nic,
I have a dull pain in my tailbone, but every now and again I get a shooting pain on the right side of my back that sometimes goes down my leg. I have a feeling it's the sciatic nerve but I'll check it with the OB when I go and see them seeing my doc told me not to worry about it!!
It can be pretty bad, sometimes I have to hobble around after I have had the shooting pain because it's painful to move my right leg.

My pain is dull when sitting but becomes a sharp pain for a few seconds when I stand up..... It's weird a few people seem to be having this same sort of thing.... makes me think it must be related to the pregnancy.

Thanks girls :)
Will have to mention it at my next OB appointment

hi ladies.
I have been in pain for along time with my tail bone, i asked the midwife and she said it was from my cervix tilting back putting pressure on my coccxy bone. she said it would get better in my 2nd trimester when the cervix would hopefully tilt forward, prob is its getting worse.
I know my cervix was back in my last pregnancy as they had trouble breaking my waters.
just hoping it gets better soon, i do notice some days are better then others and im not sure if thats due to bub moving to a different possie.

hmm that's intersting Tan. I was wondering about the tailbone thing last night cos I was lying in bed when I suddenly got a dull pain there. I couldn't really imagine why it might be, or whether it was pg related or not. Hopefully I don't get it again, but we'll see.

I had a sore tailbone while pregnant and it was very painful. I saw a chiro who didn't help but my physio did. I also bought a doughnut pillow to sit on - you can buy them at chemists or Clark Rubber. My ob told me it was to do with the hormone Relaxin relaxing everything and not properly supporting the tailbone. Eventually it went away but it was quite painful to sit down.
Good luck girls - I hope you get some relief soon!
