Freezing Baby food?
Has anyone ever tried freezing jarred baby food in cubes? One of my baby buddies suggested because of the high water content they might not freeze, Like they go watery in the fridge.
My DD isn't ready for solids yet but i bought some jars of baby food on special yesterday, I'll be making her food at home but i bought these for when we go out & travel... I wasn't going to buy them because i think it's a waste, She'll only eat a teaspoon or so & the rest will be no good.
They're heinz organic ones on sale at woolworths for 50c if anyone's interested, use by date is 2010.

if they dnt go out of date till 2010 you could always keep them till she will eat enough of the jar for it to be worthwhile?? not sure about freezing them in cubes.. if they do end up watery you could always blend them with a little organic rice cereal to thicken them?? why not just use one jar and test out how well they freeze and defrost?? only 50c loss to figure it out lol sorry i am not overly helpful

Yeah, Thanks noni... I will test it out - was just wondering if anyone else had tried because i'd hate for them to freeze well but be no good & then i'd be giving her icky food iykwim, I'll just eat some.. lol. Yum!

Hi,
Much better to buy frozen baby food(there are a few brands out there) IMO, than to buy jars in freeze..i have done some research into the jarred/tinned baby foods, and they really aren't that nutritionally sound, as many of the nutrients are lost in the UHT(ultra heat treating)process used to give them the long shelf stability..so with my bubs i buy frozen baby foods and keep those for the 'crazy days' when i need a back up..also they are really good for leaving at MIL's when she looks after the babies or taking in the nappy bag to pay group(but can't keep them in there too long, of course!!)
Hope this has helped!!
