Hi,
Does anyone know of somewhere to do aqua aerobics when pregnant? I live in Newcastle. I specifically want gentle exercise and have already looked into general exercise and yoga options.
Thanks,
Mich

only thing I can think of is to give the pools a ring directly and ask... or any of the gyms with pool facilities- cant think of any off the top of my head. Maybe the university gym???
I know Kurri has aqua aerobics- but the times arent the most convienent.
If you find any, let me know!
Phoenix sports club in Mayfield do aqua arobics and im pretty sure they will accomodate for a pregnant women. Just give 'em a call and ask about their class.
I have sent an email message to Phoenix club to find out about their aqua aerobics. The only "pregnancy" class I could find on their website was yoga... so I asked them if there are any other suitable classes. I will let you know as soon as I find out.
Michelle - we have a little group of Newy ladies chatting in the NSW groups area if you want to join us. We are trying to meet up in February... you are most welcome to come. How far along are you?
Michelle, you can do aqua at The Junction. They dont have a specific pregnancy class but i go there and we have had a few pregnant ladies with us -some up until the birth.
They run pretty good times also - mid morning and early evening. It's heated too
Thanks for info - MrsB26 how full on are the classes. The main reason I was thinking of preg classes specifically is that I need extremely gentle exercise from a medical point of view.
Alicia, Antheia - I have seen the classes at phoenix - unfortuneately they are too 'full on' for me. I'm due just after you Alicia - mid June so 20weeks.
Neek - hadn't thought of the uni - will give them a call.
Come to think of it, they are pretty good at getting your heart rate up. Have you thought about paying someone for a few private lessons and then just doing it by yourself or with a friend. That way if you know someone with a pool you'll be able to save some money and if not you can still go to your local pool when it's convienient and dont have to worry about class times.
BTW the ladies in my classes just do the low impact version if the normal way is too much for them.
Thanks MrsB26,
I have been doing the lone pool thing - I walk and do breast stroke (at the same time - strange I know!) and then a few slow laps with a kickboard and flippers. I have been thinking about seeing an exercise physiologist actually to tailor some exercise to my needs........
The classes at the Forum (the Uni) cater for pregnant women. They just explain low impact options and you just go at a pace that suits you. I haven't actually done them since becoming pregnant but there are always one or two other pregnant ladies in the class. They have pool noodles to use for bouyancy so you don't have to worry about not fitting into one of the bouyancy vests. They have classes of a morning and evening.
Has anyone tried the pregnancy exercise classes run by Kirsten @ Gateshead?
Cheers, Joe
Hi, My name is Tania and I am also in Newcastle, I am 23 weeks and am expecting twins, so I also need to do gentle aqua. I am about to begin mine on Monday 13-2-12 at Coughlans swim centre at Warners Bay at 9am and the cost is $7. Hope this was helpful.
Hi Mich, i am doing aqua zumba at kurri wed nights at 6.15pm it is really good, pretty gentle, even given the zumba moves lol it's $6.10 per session for 45mins. the instructor is pregnant too.
They also do plain aqua aerobics tues and thurs, same time, i think the same cost. as well as a couple of daytime sessions.
