Hey, just a question. I've read that the chance of getting pregnant each cycle is around 20%........bummer!!
Does anyone know what the individual chances of fertilisation and implantaion are?? I would think that if you have sex a lot during the fertile time chances of fertilisation would be pretty high!! But then it might just not implant?? Is that true?
Hi at your age your chances would be pretty good, you are at peak fetility. But the amount of sex would not always mean that your chances are better because it comes down to timing, we have had quite a few cycles where we have had fetilization and implantation had a faint BFP then had a later period. If we had'nt been trying we would never have known that it worked, but then failed. I am much older than you so have more doodgey eggs. I'm betting it does'nt take you very long at all. We've been trying for 6 months already tho :( But the pill mixed up my cycle so it's been nowhere near regular!
The experts recommend that you DTD every second day leading up to ovulation as if you do it every day you may actually be reducing your chances because the quality of sperm can be reduced. I highly recommend temping (if you aren't already doing it) as I found I got pregnant again much quicker once I knew exactly what was going on with my cycle.
I have heard mixed opinions about whether DTD a lot reduces sperm significantly. I think it does reduce it a bit, but not enough to make a big difference? Also the sperm can live inside of you for a few days so it is good to DTD every day a few days leading up to ovulation, the day of ovulation, and the day afterwards.

In one cycle for the average fertile couple, the chance of fertilisation from any particular meeting of egg and sperm can be about 80%, but by the time of the expected menstrual period roughly half of the early embryos have already failed to develop.Many of these lost embryos are fundamentally abnormal and are unable to survive.
I think many women fall pregnant without realising it and miscarry (miscarriage rates are a lot higher than many people think!). There's a lot that has to happen for it to turn into a successful pregnancy.
Have you tried ovulation tests to see when you are ovulating? Also have you tried Vitex Agnus Castus- I have heard that a lot of women have found this to be very successful in regulating their cycles. I hope you get your BFP soon, seeing as both you and your DH are young and healthy (?) it shouldn't take much longer. It is normal to take 6-12 months to conceive for healthy couples. Of course that is not what you want to hear as it still seems like such a long time to wait! Good luck hun xx

New reports claim dtd every single day (once a day) is great for conception, that is, as long as the man has plenty of healthy sperm and it actually helps the sperm to rejuvenate faster.... if the man has known lack of sperm or lack of sperm mobility that is when they should dtd every day.... i posted somethinga about it about 2 weeks ago on the ttc thread.....
Recently for IVF clinics, they've been asking the man to ejaculate DAILY rather than every 2-3 days like before....(reported on the news the other night)

I wish I could find somewhere with the individual percentage chances of fertilisation and implantation. I'm interested to know. But all my googling has found nothing, lol.

Sara, I doubt you would find that info, as so many factors would influence the percentage, I think even seeing a FS you would find they would give you the same odds as any couple in your age group. In saying that if you are getting worried it may be worth booking in to see someone to see if there are any factors that could be making it more difficult. But my guess is that if you have been on the pill and your cycle is a bit messed up that maybe you have missed O, maybe charting would help and always good to have a record if you do need to seek help at some stage even if it's only when you get AF.
