14DPO, spotting/light bleeding, +ve HPT... v. confused!

I've posted in this exact same thread in the Conception General Discussion area, but I was hoping that in case there are AC people who come straight in to the LTTTC & AC thread that it would be ok to post here so that they may be able to help too.... I hope this is ok, mods? More than happy to have this thread removed if it's not ok - apologies if I've done the wrong thing :)

I'm just wondering if anyone is able to shed any light on whether they had similar circumstances as mine leading up to a positive b/t for pregnancy.

Today, I'm 14DPO for my second IVF stim cycle, and AF was due yesterday. From Tuesday (11DPO) I had myself completely convinced that AF was coming as I had exactly the same symptoms at the same time as my negative cycle back in December (spotting started, BB stopped hurting, cramping started). I did a HPT on Tuesday (not with FMU) and it was negative. Since then I've continued to spot a little, cramp a little, but AF has not come. I did a second HPT this morning, this time with FMU and it was positive. It wasn't a strong positive, but not completely faint either, but the line did start developing straight away.

I'm now worried that I'm going through a chemical pregnancy as I'm still convinced AF is coming - in fact I'm more convinced now, as the spotting has increased since last night and this morning - it's fresher and brighter and the cramping is increasing somewhat.

Perhaps if I had have used FMU on Tuesday's test it would have been positive then too?

I'm really quite confused and my b/t is not due until Monday. Has anyone been in the circumstances/know of anyone where they had some spotting/very light bleeding, a positive HPT and still ended up being pregnant? I'm fairly convinced it's going to be negative by the time the b/t comes round, but to be honest, I'm just confused overall, as I would like to think there was some hope...

Any help would be much appreciated!

I am on crinone so I though this would at least get me to my BT which is still a week away.

When i was pregnant with my son (who is now 4) i actually used a tampon as i thought it was AF it lasted maybe 2 days although it wasnt bleeding more dark spotting but abit heavier than usual spotting had some hemmorages when they did the ultrasound but obvisouly i went on to have a H&H pregnancy. Good luck my luv i know its very scary when things like that happen and your probably going to hear a whole mixture of stories, but stay positive. Maybe get your doc to check your progesteron levels too.

are you on pregnyl injections, if so when was your last one? I'm not sure how long it takes for the doseage to be out of your system, is it maybe 3 days?

oooh all the best for some great news on Monday - I've heard stories often on BB about AF symptoms which turn out to be a BFP. Even a girl, LG, who had an actual AF which was reasonably heavy, and was a BFP (ends up they suspected she had an early loss of a twin) - rest of pregnancy carrying on normally as far as I know; and other girls who just tend to have a light bleed even though pregnant. :crossfingers: :crossfingers: Are you going to do another FMU test on Sunday? If it's darker, I reckon you have every right to get excited !!

lil_chookie - I was about 10DPO when I started very light spotting. Cramping has gone hand in hand with it. I'm now 15DPO and I'm continuing to hang on to hope until my BT on Monday as my HPT this morning is still positive, despite the bleeding now. Hang in there hun :hug:

scooby - oohhh, this is exactly what's happening to me at the moment! Thanks for letting me know what you've gone through - it really helps to know that. I wish you lots and lots of luck for your IUI and hope you're feeling ok for now :)

Deni - I haven't had pregnyl boosters. Just Crinone. Thanks for sharing the stories you've heard - this is what I really needed to hear, as I don't want to lose hope yet. I want to find ways to stay positive as far as I possibly can leading up to the BT. I thought that knowing of stories where women have had bleeding and gone on the H&H pregnancies would help me to stay positive instead of continuing to feel anxious and convincing myself it's all over. I don't want to be negative, as I personally believe the mind-body connection can be really strong when you believe in a certain reality. The stress of worrying won't help either.

Another HPT this morning was positive again, not as faint as yesterday's one, however my brown spotting has stopped and fresh bleeding has taken over. It hasn't been heavy bleeding, really quite light in comparison to my normal AF bleeding, but I can say that I had a heavier spot of it this morning, which has now gone away. It seems to stop and start, a little bleeding and then stop all together, which is not like my AF at all.

I think all I can do now is wait until Monday and see what happens. I'll continue holding on to hope for now. Hearing the stories above is helping me a great deal already. Thank you! :)

BT today came back with HCG levels of 25. I now have to go back for another BT on Wednesday, with the clinic hoping that my levels drop on the next test, otherwise they would be concerned about ectopic or non-viable pregnancy if they haven't dropped.

AF arrived full-steam on Saturday after noon after pretty full-on cramping and she's not letting up with the cramping, three days later. The clinic were surprised that my levels were still at 25 going into a third day of heavy bleeding.

I'm trying to keep out of devastated mode - DH is very good at bringing reality to the front - he's optimistic about the future now that we got this far. I'll feel more able to move forward once I know what the next step is, which can't be confirmed until at least the next BT on Wednesday. To move straight to a FET will require my levels to be 2 or under, otherwise I'll have to let my body recuperate from this chemical pregnancy before moving to the next cycle, so we'll see. For now it looks like we came very close, and we had a sticky who unstuck.

I'll update again once I know the results from Wednesday's BT.

I'm so sorry to hear about AF arriving and your low level beta. I hope that through the pain there is something positive that comes from this. I do know that many women do feel that these trials sometimes helped them find the answers to finally achieve success, and I hope it will be the same for you.

I think the positive thing is that we know now that an embryo can stick, even just for a little bit. Being able to say that after two cycles is a positive thing!

It's painful that we really were so close, but this is the nature of conception, especially AC, and we are getting used to that more and more as we go through this journey, and as the depth of the journey continues to uncover itself. It bloody hurts and makes you upset, but your level of understanding about the journey and the process increases.

I've read your story in the LTTTC & AC thread, and I know it sounds cliched, but I think I understand some of the things you've mentioned in your story more now than I did before, simply from my experience, and I know that you and many other ladies who haved been going through AC can really relate to what's happened to me in the last couple of days, as I can now relate to them. The knowledge is something that makes me feel that I can have strength for the next step. Knowing that there are other people who can really, really relate to your experience, and that they got through their own journeys, with success in the end, like you :)

It gives hope and makes me feel like I can keep moving forward.

I do believe that the further you walk down this road, the more it changes everything about you, and as painful as it is, you become a more beautiful, much deeper, more empathic and more muti-layered person than you were with every step. And when the end of the journey comes, whether you end up holding your precious longed-for baby in your arms, or you learn to live with your infertility, all those new layers will help you realise how bright and amazing life can be, despite the pain. And perhaps because of it.
