I got a Janome My Lock 204D for Christmas & it's great :D It came threaded with scrap threads & then all you have to do is tie the proper thread to the scrap one & pull it through to have it threaded up properly & ready to go. The way it came out of the box, tension & everything, was perfect so it's very easy to get started. I'm not sure how much it cost thought as my mum bought it for me.

Thanks Sarah! I'll do an online search for that one and see what comes up!

Lee I would advise you to frequent a few sewing/patchwork shops that sell them and chat to the ladies there. I'd steer away from the big stores but you could be lucky and get a really helpful person at spotters that can give you good honest advice...if you can find them first ;)
I ended up with a Bernina 700d and I think it's awesome! I ended up choosing it as it had a 5 year warranty. It's easy to thread now I've got the hang of it. The first few times there was lots of ranting. I think they are all pretty much the same as far as that goes.

Check out the machine shops as they can demonstrate the machines for you and you could probably try a couple. Some cheaper machines jump around alot so watch for that. Some of the machine shops also give lessons if that's of a help.
