Hi all, I just had my scan today and my placenta is anterior, clear of the os by 4.4cm. Now, I have absolutely no freakin idea what this means, so if an "expert" is out there that knows what that means can help me that would be great. I'm just wanting to know if this is a positive or a negative thing for a VBAC? just wanting to prepare myself incase my OB says I can't go for a VBAC at my next appointment because of these results.

given its clear of the cervix I don't think it should mean anything. when I commented about mine being anterior last week my OB said doesn't matter - we weren't talking wrt VBACs but he just commented that its no different really so long as its clear of the cervix opening.
i have read among stuff that if the placenta has attached to the scar it is going to be anterior and maybe they would try and use this comment if they really weren't pro your VBAC but the material continued to say how unlikely this was and that just cause it was anterior was not an indication that the placenta had attached to the scar tissue.

My placenta was anterior for both of my VBAC births. Never made an inch of difference.
It is a load of BS if your Dr tries to use this as an excuse for no VBAC. Given that my 2 vbacs were both at home and with anterior placenta's, and I had a midwife who thought that there were no issues, I wouldn't stress to much about it hun :D
Woohoo ! Thanks Trish, I'm sure my Dr would be quite supportive, but I wanted to "arm" myself with information before my appointment - just in case!!!! :D

Mine placenta is anterior as well & my Dr looked at the u/s and said "your placenta's anterior" matter of fact that was it. I asked if it was going to be an issue & he said for what LOL!! I said the VBAC and he gave me this odd look and said aaah no, it makes no difference to me.
Sarah - OMG.. I am soooo glad I posted this thread - cos i was a bit worried about it!!! Now I can go in there confident as anything and say "poo-poo to repeat c-section, bring on the pushin, baby"

Mine is anterior as well and the hospital obs have agreed to my VBAC. Was not something they considered when assessing my risk at all.

An anterior placenta is normal. Whether it's attached to the front or the back is not an issue in any way. What's important is the clearance between your placenta and your cervix and 4.4cm is practically the Grand Canyon....well y'know not quite but it's more than ample space.

Ok, here is the update (cos you asked for it ;))
OB didn't even say anything about the position of my placenta, just did normal check up, BP, measured my belly, listened to heartbeat and just said to start getting excited about labour!!!
Woohoo. this is soooo going to happen.
Soon (well 20 weeks soon) I'll be one of those successful VBAC stories on here. I'm so happy I could cry.... (being pregnant with all these bloomin hormones I just might!!!)
