Try not to worry about it - baby is still quite small and sometimes you may not feel a real *kick* for another few weeks. Also do you know if you have an anterior placenta or not? If you do then the baby's movements are cushioned by the placenta. Eitehr way though, I'm sure you will soon start to feel the big kicks that you've been waiting for :)
It might be that your placenta is at the front so you won't feel the kicks as early as others. My sister is 26 weeks pregnant and hasn't felt anything yet cause her placenta is anterior across her belly.
I haven't felt anything really yet either, and its because my placenta is anterior - different to what it was when pregnant with DS.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Did you find out where your placenta was sitting at your 20 week scan?
Hehe Enjoy this moment while it lasts darl.. i was the same as you waiting for the movements and kicks.. now they get so painful I can't wait for her to go to sleep LOL but dont worry it will happen soon
I'm in the same boat as you, I'm getting plenty of flutters and what feel like kicks but they can't be felt on the outside yet. I have been told not to worry about it, that I'll probably start feeling them in the next couple of weeks... I don't have an anterior placenta either so that was part of the reason why I was freaking out!
Some of my mates haven't felt kicking on the outside until around 24 weeks!
I was 21 weeks when i felt the first gorgeous tiny flutters with Isabelle, and then was about 25 when I actually felt big kicks! Try not to worry - savour those little flutters before you get booted from here to beyond!!
I was going to say the same thing as others about the position of the placenta. Normally that has a lot to do with it.
If it makes you feel any better, I remember going to my ob appointment at about 20 weeks and gushing about the amazing things I could feel and my ob told me it was probably just gastric bubbles etc! Yeah, go on, just burst my bubble why don't ya? He reckons that it is a myth to feel it before the 23 week mark.
I said that the next time HE is pregnant he can tell me whether he thinks its a myth. Tut.
You will feel the little one soon enough. I know what its like to be waiting and waiting for it. Does open up a whole new can of worms though, because you start to worry when you don't feel them moving as much, and the little one is probably just having a snooze.
Best of luck!
Thank you for all your replies, I feel alot better and will try to stop worring so much .
I do have an anterior placenta so hopefully it won't be too long
My freind had an anterio placenta as well and didnt feel any kicking until 32 weeks I say enjoy the comfort while you can
I think another thing to consider is how your baby chooses to lay. My wee boy has favoured facing towards my back where there hardly any nerve endings so no feeling at all when he kicks. Am feeling much more movement now though as space is tightening up in there. Try not to worry or compare yourself to others (hard to do I know) as we're all different.
It also depends on how much you weigh... If you start out carrying around a few extra kilos, it could take longer to feel kicks. Depends on the baby, too. Some are more active than others, some feel the need to try to break off your lower ribs until you're lying curled up on the bed rocking back and forth and begging all the gods above to make it stop. And some, I suppose, are quite nice and don't do that. ;)
Hey I was just curious, cause I had the same problem with this one. My bubba this time (being my 2nd) I have felt flutters and teeny kicks since around 12-14 wks but havnt felt nothing major the whole pregnancy only squirming lol.
He appears to be normal and healthy on scans and check ups, and I feel fine as well.
But I just got real curious about this anterior placenta thing... so I pulled out a 14 week scan with the report... it reads " The placenta lies anteriorly clear of the cervix which appears normal and closed ".
Does that mean mines anterior too? Coz that sure would explain alot:lol:
Dan - I would say so :D
