Please Help - Had My First Cycle Of ICSI Cancelled

After years of trying, being on varies medication. I finally met with a fertility specialist who told us we would not fall pregnant naturally and would need IVF.
He started me on ICSI last month and my hormones were all over the place, finally had my egg collection on Monday and they retrieved 17 eggs. The next day I got a call telling me 13 out of the 17 have developed and that is an above average result. I was getting excited as this was more than what I expected. I started to feel real bad pain towards the end of the day, bloated, couldn't go the toilet/pass wind. I kept drinking loads of fluid and taking panadol.
I get to the clinic yesterday morning and the nurse is so excited that we have a very well developed egg that they want to transfer!! I told her how I was feeling and called in my specialist. He felt my tummy and looked at my tongue and advised he would not be doing the transfer due to hyperstimulation. And that if he did go ahead with it, I could end up in hospital on a drip.
To say I was devasted is an understatement! Everything was going so well, and the last step stuffed up! I was angry..hurt..lost...and I'm just so confused now....

Has anyone had this problem?

How long would you need to wait before you get it done again?

I am so sorry they cancelled your transfer but did they explain you can still have a frozen embryo transfer - they sometimes wait full cycle this your next period after this one ... so a months break or sometimes if you are okay they will do the very next cycle -so about months time if you are well enough.

You had a great egg/fertilisation result -congratulations.

Several girls from this forum have had it happen - and I know of several others - the next time with frozen embryo they got pregnant.

It is for the best though for your health but so very disappointing.It almost happened to me but I was okay (still didn't get a BFP that time)

I had a cycle cancelled due to hyperstimulating, I had trouble breathing and moving as well. I tried to pretend to be healthy on the day of the PU, but the look on my face when I moved told the story. On the other hand you have a lovely supply of embies in the freezer, and transfers for when you are well enough. I might be wrong but I do remember a nurse telling me that there is higher risk of MC if you transfer during hyperstim.
I hope you feel better and although it is heartbreaking now not to transfer you want to give the littles the best chance to implant in a healthy mummy

I rang the clinic today just to ask a few more questions like the obvious..could I have prevented it? Hoe did it happen? Could it be done next month? etc etc. My body reacted to the treatment really well hence the reason I got hyperstimulation. I cried again after getting off the phone as I still can't believe it has happened.

The scientist rang me this afternoon to tell me they will be freezing 7 embryos. Made me feel much better that I have 7 more tries!

I have booked in to see him in a few weeks as he has plans for the transfer to be done in Jan.

I will try to stay positive, it was just hard knowing I could have been pregnant through xmas and could have given my parents the bext xmas gift ever. But like you said, it could have ended worse with a m/c.

I had the exact same thing happen to me this week only I did end up in hospital on a drip!! The risk is that pg makes hyperstim worse and it can be life threatening. I am on the mend and I hope you are too. 7 frosties is great!! Come join us in the monthly thread the girls are all very supportive!!

I did fall pregnant not the following but the next. My odds were always halved because I could only transfer one embie at a time. But there is no reason why you can't.
Waiting is always the hardest, but try and focus on the positives. You did well to have such a wonderful pick up, and the FET cycles are much gentler on the body. Most time it is tablet form to establish a good endometruim (lining) so those little embies stick.
