Just wondering what other mothers groups do when they meet. I was after some ideas on what we could do. We generally meet once a week at various homes... What other things do you do??
We were meeting weekly at someones house, the kids would just run around and we would sit and chat...
Now with me having #2 and the kids getting bigger, and some mums returning to work, we meet twice a month. The first meeting is at a house, the second, at a park, play centre, pool or something... makes it a bit easier on the host and we don't feel like we see each other too much!
We meeet most weeks, on a thursday. We often go to someones house (particularly if the weather is crap). Sometimes we meet at a Park and bring a plate of food for us all to share, or sometimes we meet at a Cafe for morning tea.
We have been giong out to various locations. When our bubs were really little, we'd go places like shopping centres, cafes and even pubs!! Its been great. With the nicer weather, we go to parks or down by the river etc. We've even been meeting at the local aquatic centres and taking all the bubs swimming quite a bit. Lots of different things to keep it interesting. However, now that our bubs are all starting to crawl and walk, its going to get interesting. Has been great while it lasted though!
Good luck.
My Mother' Group had a roster of activities we used to do. Initially we met every Thurs for a walk and coffee. Then once the bubs hit 6 months we also enrolled to do swimming classes together every Friday in addittion to our walks. We also had adhoc shopping trips etc. We did a Mum's Only function at Christmas time. Now, we meet every week doing different things - walking (less popular now the kids all hate their prams!), play centres, shopping centres, each other's homes. This week we are going to the local mini train ride near us. The other Mum's still do swimming on a Friday although I no longer go due to work. Oh yeah, we also go to a library thing once a month called "Tiny Tots" and some of the mum's do Gymbaroo...

We meet weekly although everyone (except me!) in the group works so some can only make it every few weeks. We alternate whose house or what cafe we're meeting at and someone else prepares the food (we do a roster system). Sometimes we meet at play centres. We occasionally do dinners with dads and bubs invited. We have started a book group in the last few months which is great - we'll read a book a month then go out to dinner and discuss it (hm, less than half the group are in the book club, which is fine). Sometimes we do a movie instead of a book. A great way to have some adult company and not have to discuss babies! Some of us try to swim together too (with bubs) but not often.
Our bubs are all between 13 and 17 months.
We meet at a park or at the pool or cafe while the weather is good, but over winter we just alternated houses and one day had our own 'mums and bubs' session to watch knocked up coz they had stoopid movies on at the real mums and bubs. But we normally just play it by ear. If we ar eat the park then two of us will do a coffee run (normally more than once :)) and we just sit and play with all the kiddies. If it is at someones house then normally a few of us will bring some nibblies.
We have occassionally all arranged to go to a Breastfeeding Association Talk if it has taken our interest, otherwise it is all very casual and relaxed and unplanned.
We meet at a local community centre once a week and watch them all steal each others' toys. We also meet weekly at the pub in the beer garden though I haven't actually made it there yet. We've also had dinners out (no babies) and we're having a BBQ at the park in a couple of weeks with partners and babies. Not sure what will happen when we go back to work.
