Flu Shots??
Just wondering if anyone has had or is having their flu vaccine this year or in previous years when they have been pregnant?
I am not sure about this and work in an environment where there is a lot of people coming and going. Having been a very heavy smoker years ago I am now prone to nasty chest infections but haven't had one since I started getting the jab.
I am currently 16 weeks but am unsure if it will affect bub. I am already experiencing the aches and chills and am sniffly but as this is my first pregancy to this stage, I don't know whats normal.
Any imput would be appreciated.
Thanks all

Hi NaeNae,
I was just reading up on the flu injection and the consumer information says that it's recommended for women planning to become pregnant, or women who will be between 4 and 9 months pregnant during the flu season. Also that there is no evidence of risk to unborn babies from the flu shot.
So in short it IS recommended for pregnant women, although I'm going to speak to my doctor first because I had the sniffles when I had my flu short last year, and although they say the shot doesn't cause the flu, I was sick as a dog for two weeks afterwards.... I blame the flu shot and I'm almost 8 mths pregnant and would hate to have the flu now!
Hope this help....

I have read the same as Kristin about it being safe in the 2nd and 3rd Trimester. I'm going to speak to my Ob about it today. I work in an Accident and Emergency Dept and I come into contact with sick ppl all the time. I have had the flu vax every year for the past 6 years or so and have never had the flu and get 1 mild to moderate cold per year. But I am pretty hardy, and don't get sick much at the best of times.

I had the flu shot last year because I was pregnant - DH was laid up in bed 3 times (he didn't have the shot) and I got one very mild case of the sniffles, that's it! He's definitely having it this year (he's a teacher so has lots of exposure).

I had the flu shot whilst pregnant and Im sure it was in the first 3 months. My Dr said it's perfectly safe (and I had no side effects, coco fine). I will definitely get another one this year. I too had it after a few bouts of flu and I just couldn't cope being pregnant and having a child and DH to look after! xo
