18mth old getting into the DVDs

How can i stop my 18mth old DS from pulling out all the DVDs and wrecking them?

We have a DVD carosel holder that spins around and they are easily accessable to him. (up to his height anyway, which is most)

He does it when i am not in the room or if i am reading or on the laptop. So when i'm not looking. He is very quick at getting the actual DVD out of the cases and also the paper covers and ripping them. I am sick of wipping sticky fingerprints off them.

I give him a tap on the hand and say a firm no. But he looks at me like he doesn't care and just walks away but it doesnt stop him from doing it again later on.

Does anyone else's toddler do this?

My DS isn't quite that old - nearly - he's 15 months (today..woohoo!) anyway, he does this too, and the cds - they are both in a bookshelf type thing on the floor and he sits in front of it and pulls them out.
We just say "NO" ... and "they aren't yours"... and take him away to another area of the loungeroom and play with HIS toys... and we explain... "these are YOUR toys" lets play.. or something like that...
We have to do it a couple of times a week, but he's pretty good at remembering. Usually he looks at me with his hand up, and I just shoot him a look, and he knows what it means!! haha!!!!
I'm not much help I'm afraid...... Other than moving them to a different spot of course!!!

Oh I know that feeling sweety my DD is almost 3 and she still does it! No matter how many times I go mad on her for it, and she jams our DVD player up constantly, we used to have all our DVD's with a childlock in the tv cabinet with the DVD player, had no problems but since then have got a newer cabinet, so theres more room in the loungeroom. Nowhere to lock these cupboards!!! argh! And I even tried putting them in another room in drawers and now she knows how to get into them and if she cant reach she gets a chair, and she can un-do child locks now! hehe

so frustrating I know, the only thing i can advise is tomaybe move them, put them away in alockable cupboard with a childlock or something, but then it only is solong before they work out how to un-do them hehe. good luck!

There is not where else to put them unfortunatly. Plus i would rather have them in the DVD holder as it cost so much, i want it used.

I mean, he doesnt even have any kind of remorse either. He just doesn't care. Little brat lol.

We have all our DVD's in our entertainment unit behind a glass and wooden door that unfortunately doesn't lock, and we can't child proof it either. I've lost count how many time i have moved Ashton away and got him his own stuff to play with lol.

i ended up packing all mine away, it wasn't worth it in the end...

Maybe move the whole thing to a spare room or your bedroom?

Oh, the whole thing sounds like just too much FUN - the spinny carousel, the little boxes, the pretty DVDs, the paper to rip and most of all it get's mummy attention every single time she is doing something 'boring' like reading or on the puter! LOL Big temptation there :)

If that was my house I'd try removing the carousel to a different spot (up on a shelf) or behind a closed door. That way you still get ease of access without the ongoing stress. Then you can reintroduce it into the loungeroom again in a few months once he's got past his DVD obsession!

Unfortunatly there is no where else to put the carosel either. No spare room and no room in our bedroom at all. Definatly cant put it up either, its too big.

Today he is being a right terror with it all, doing it while i am watching. Although stopped when i say no, but it doesnt stop him from trying. Hopfully this behavour ends soon!
