Any thoughts what could be going on

Ever since Glenn was about 2 maybe even a little younger. He has periods where he will wake at night crying in pain & clutching his foot. It happens on & off. Like its happened twice in the last 5 days but its been about months since the last time he did it.
Its always the same foot & seems to be his ankle but its hard to know exactly. By morning he is fine but can't tell me where exactly it was hurting.

I brought up with My GP a little while back who fobbed it off as attention seeking behaviour & suggested giving him "pretend" pandol the next time it happens. We don't agree that its attention seeking. He has no reason to wake & cry for attention in the middle of the night. He is more then welcome to come into our bed & we have always tended to the kids at the first sign of a whimper. But the GP wasn't really interested in looking into it further.

My GP is good with me but not that good when it comes to the kids but I am still looking for a GP who is.

So before I go on a mad hunt for a GP who will take it seriously, any of you got any idea's?

Oh the poor little man :(. Could it be cramps in his foot? I used to get foot cramps in bed a lot which would wake me up.

I was thinking maybe foot / leg cramps as well... When he wakes up, maybe try to get him to stretch his fot to see if it goes away.

yeah i was thinking cramps too , there could be a need for more magneisim , also they run around all day , has he ever hurt his foot and may not have healed properly ?? kwim

i was thinking cramps too but its only the one foot & it just doesn't seem like a cramp. No injuries that i know of & god I would feel awlful if something like that was found

You can check for cramps by feeling for the muscles in his leg/foot - if they are all hard and seized up then it's pretty obvious that's what it is. However if it keeps on and you're still worried seek a second opinion. "Attention seeking" seems like a pretty poor explanation when clearly the doc had no idea.

ETA- don't kids sometimes get 'growing pains' which is from the ligaments in their legs stretching when they have a growth spurt. I know this can hurt in their thighs, knees and calves - possibly other ligaments as well???

This happens to my DD and we put it down to "growing pains". Whenever she has a boust of this she has a growth spurt not long after.

Ps - GL finding a doc in the mountains who you dont need to book a month in advance to see!

it happened last night & i did feel his foot leg etc & no obvious cramping felt

eta - I would head down to richmond/windsor for a dr, mine is at nth richmond,
where i live we don't even have a corner shop so ain't gonna find a dr lol

sorry to repeat what everyone else has said but I was also thinking cramps - I used to get really bad cramps in my calves and toes as a kid - does it happen when he has had a day doing lots of exercise, phys ed. or playing sport, even swimming used to do it for me....hope you get an answer soon.

nope, yesterday was a pretty lazy day because its wet as up here atm. So didn't do much of anything at all.

Cramps seems like the obvious thing but I really don't think thats it. Growing pains maybe but why only at night & why only the one foot?

Could he be getting his foot stuck next to the bed & the wall or something like that?

FJ my first thought was growing pains too...have you ever noticed it's followed by or coincides with a growth spurt? I seem to remember reading that they are more common in boys than girls.

unless he is having growth spurts every few weeks, i'm not sure.

FJ i would start by seeing if you can eliminate the possibility of cramps by giving him a milo sometime prior to bed to help increase magnesium

they have a nulti vit tab dsily, will check if that has magnesium in it

Nope they don't! Ok, I wllStart giving them Some Aktivite ( I don't buy Nestle). Only problem with that is if they know we have it i nthe house then we all eat it LOL. Reason I don't by it all the time.

FJ, my daughter always gets them in her right calf - no idea why its always on the same side.
