Which baby to carry?

This might be something that all becomes clear for me when DD#2 is here, but for ladies with two bubbies close together have you found it better to carry one than the other? Obviously weight wise carrying a newborn is a whole bunch easier than carrying a 12 month old, but I wonder if it will make DD#1 feel as if the new baby is getting all of her mummy's attention and affection.

So, my question is do you alternate who you carry and who is in the pram, or do you fall into a pattern of mainly carrying one over the other? Or do you just stop carrying when you're out and have them both in the pram?

Tough one Lulu but I would carry the newborn and have Iz in the pram. Iz is at the stage where she wants to look around and be able to touch and play and probably wouldn't even notice Ned being carried. So I would alternate between them both being in the double pram and Iz being in the pram and Ned being carried.
It's so hard knowing what to do so that you don't look like you are favouring one or the other. You are going to do an amazing job Lulu.

Yeah, like Dan said, carry the newborn. Much nicer to you, a nb needs the comfort of a mothers scent more and your toddler will want to observe more. It's not like you're going to be ignoring your firstborn. In the end, they would rather a mummy without backache who is able to play when you get home that one who will carry them and be too tired and sore! You'll be great! Don't sweat it before it happens!

I wore the new born too. I found it worked best as that meant the little one slept most of the time and the bigger one felt very independent!

Hey sweets, I've been thinking about this too as I want to use a carrier early on for bubby not the pram and I figure that Izzy is used to her stroller so it won't be a big change for her, and bubby will be nice and light! You might find there are times that bubby is sleeping, and Iz wants attention so you could have times that you carry her instead though I guess!! Not long to go now! :hooray:

Whilst my younger two are 19 months apart (little older than your two will be) i found having DD#3 in the sling, and i had DD#2 in the pram. DD#3 would sleep almost all the time when she goes in the sling, allowing me to chat to and, focus my attention on DD#2. For the short amount of time you can spend at the shops with two young ones :lol:......i doubt your DD is going to feel left out - KWIM/?/???

Thanks ladies. So worried about not favouring one or the other. Definitely going to be one of those periods of my life when I'm going to wish for an extra set of hands I think!

An xtra mind wouldnt go astray either for those days you feel blah ;).......Its actually suprising how often perfect strangers offer to help whilst out shopping etc. e.g - offer to lift a child out of a trolley, offer to carry a grocery bag to your car - when i go shopping with my three little ones, i can honestly say i get 2 or 3 people every time asking 'do you need a hand love?'. Whilst i dont accept, its so nice to know there is friendly help out there.....
