Clexane in pregnancy??
Hi everyone
My young family move to western australia form New Zealand 10 months ago, I have 2 DS and in our first pregnancy i developed a DVT (blood clot) where i was told that i would have to start using clexane when i left the hospital. In my second pregnancy i started back on the clexane injections after the first trimester. My DP and I are thinking about TTC number 3 and my question is does anyone know if i would have to pay for the clexane injections in WA? Because in NZ all the medical things in pregnancy are free.
Hope someone can help
thanks krissy

Hi Krissy,
I am quite sure you will have to pay.
I have factor V Leiden, blood clotting gene, and will have to take Clexane as soon as I am pregnant. We are currently trying to conceive.
I have a script from my haematologist to purchase Clexane from a pharmacy. Not sure how much it costs yet though!!!!

Hi I had two Clexane pregnancies in WA and you will need to buy the Clexane..... I hope you get it substidised? It will cost about $30 for about 60 syringes.... or around $800 (that is what I was told it would cost if it wasn't substidised) for the 60 syringes....
Alot of pharmacies stock it now, or they can get it in quickly for you.
Best of luck... I went through King Edward Hospital and found them great... and I think it might have been a little bit cheaper at the hospital pharmacy as well.
Cheers
HOpe that helps.

Hi there,
Yep, I would say you will need to pay unless you are on a pension or something and will pay the minimal fee which is a few dollars i think. I took it from the moment i was pg (to help with arthritis as i had come of all steroids/medications etc in order to get pg) with DS#2 until i went into hospital a few days before delivery and had to pay for it. I can't remember how much it was though ...... sorry...but it wasn't too expensive .
Good luck to you both Tess and Krissy on your TTC journey.

I am currently using clexane in my pregnancy, due to lupus anticoagulent. I have a health care/concession card (NSW) and it costs me $8.60 for 20 syringes. The full cost is $109. Hope this is any help. best of luck

thanks for that tiffany, We are now moving so I will be TTC in victoria now. Im confused though, how come it would be sibsidised for some and not others? does it depend where you live?.
And also what is the health care concession card? I have medi care do you think they would substidise it for you?

Hi Krissy,
I am in Victoria and it costs me $30 for 10 syringes no matter which chemist I get it from.
I am not on a concession card. Wish I was!
Cheers.

wow thanks tess that would add up wouldnt it??
1 everyday, sadly i dont have a choice I just really wanted to find out so I would know what i am dealing with. I think all pregnancy related things should be free like in NZ, it is so much easier.
