Freaking Out!!!

I was booked in for an Induction that was to take place early next month...well today I had an appointment with the OB and they have brought the induction date forward by a week!!! So this time next week I will be at the hospital being induced...I am freaking out about it!!! I mean I know it's inevitable that I will have this baby, but when you are given a date for it and you get your head wrapped around it, then you are told it's going to happen sooner, it has just kinda thrown me. :wall:

I know exactly how you are feeling! This week I found out it's a good possibility I have to have a c-section due to placenta praevia and the whole thing is doing my head in, the c-section decision, baby arriving sooner than expected, etc...eek, reality is starting to sink in!

It's probably natural to freak out because your plans have changed but you'll be fine. I think it's soooo exciting!! Why was your date put forward? Remember, your ob is making a decision that's right for you (well usually they do!). Just make sure you've done all the things you wanted to before the baby arrives!

I don't mean to be rude, but why are you being induced so early or even at all? At 37+ weeks, you will hardly be full term.

Without knowing anything about Cherii's situation I would presume it is a medical related reason, wouldn't you think Antheia? I doubt they're doing it for fun.

Like said, i wasn't trying to be rude. I asked because i was interested to know why they would do it so early. Simple as that.

I certainly dont think its a rude question, i was going to ask the same thing. My ob with all my pregnancys wanted to with first bub do a caesare then the second bub either induction or caesare and same with the last bub. He want to do a caesar at 38 weeks but when it got past that time he wanted to induce me. Im sure it was all to get me done and out the way because when i asked 'give me a medical reason' he couldnt answer me so with all 3 i said 'no'. You are not a patient but a visitor to that hospital to have that child and you have every right to say how the birth will go.

Of course if there is a medical reason then you have to listen for the sake of you and your unborn child but if there is no reason why go through with it. Its unfortunate that mums arent encouraged to say what they want when delivering. I think when its your first to then we are taken advantage of because we have know idea so we do as we are told.

I have GD and am on Insulin injections 4 times a day to control it. So yeah, it is a medical decision, otherwise I would be going full term as normal. It wasn't a rude question to ask either. I will be exactly 38 weeks when I go in for the induction.

Cherii, I totally understand how you are feeling, I was 41 weeks when I was induced (no medical reason for inducement except for over 40 weeks). What time is the inducement? mine was at night.

Maybe it will help if you have some more info on what happens at the induction.

Usually they first put prostaglandin gel on the cervix to see if that will dilate the cervix and break your waters. This procedure only takes 2 mins, some people say it may sting a bit but it didnt for me. If your cervix dialates your waters may break themselves which is great, otherwise they will come and check up on you to see how you are dialating and determine when to break your waters. Once the waters are breaking and if you are having regular contractions they dont need to give you the syntocin drip to further the contractions along. For me however, I had 2 lots of gel and then had to have the syntocin drip as my contractions were not regular. If you need the drip, they put a Canula in your hand usually to insert the drip. They give you a local anesthetic first or numb your hand with numbing cream so you dont feel the canula. Hope this info helps.

If going through the induction instead of focusing on the procedures etc focus try to focus on seeing the bubba! it helps heaps! Also totally recommend calm relaxation music to take with you to help too.

I will be going into the hospital for 2pm on the Induction day. I am glad it's not going to be at night. I want my husband around for as much as possible and I don't know if they allow partners to stick around at night or if they send them home. So if I can get it all started and settle in with my hubby around it might make it a little less scary for me.

I have read tonnes of info on the net and in mags n books about Inductions. So I am quite prepared for all kinds of methods/procedures/interventions and risks. :)

Welcome Cherii. Im sure your hubby can stay around. I had my Bestfriend and hubby stay around. I sent hubby home overnight as nothing was happening with the gel and he came back early the next morning but my bestie stayed with me overnight to keep me company, mind you we only got 3 hours sleep we were too excited!

Well i hope everything goes as planned for you. It seems not all hospitals like the partner to stay which i think is riduculous as it takes both of you to make that child and delivery it. Its just as stressful and draining for the partners and i think its idiotic that they make them drive a car after there ordeal.
I was fortunate that our hospital allowed them to stay, but even if they didnt they wouldnt of shown him the door as i needed him there with me. Plus he had a 40 minute drive and he had been up all night.

Luckily for us we only live about a 10 minute drive from the hospital, so if he cannot stay with me whilst I am there, he isn't too far away if he needs to hurry. I can only wait and see and hope......:pray:
