Gonal F Pen leak
I started my Gonal on last Thurs at the clinic and yesterday and today i did it at home.
Im a bit concerned because yesterday when i pulled the needle out there was a drop on the end, and today a drop appeared when i pulled out the button for the dose as well as after i pulled the needle out of tummy again.
Has anyone else noticed this? Im wondering whether my pen is faulty/leaky?? :(
Yesterday the nurse said that the drop after the injection is fine i still would have got the full dose, but this morning it was before and after so im a bit worried...

Hi Jules
I have not experienced a drop prior to giving the injection, but I did find that holding the needle in for a slow count of 5 after the last 'click' resulted in no drop appear after using the pen. Maybe you could give that a try?

thanks Chez i actually do leave it in for a while after (count to 20!), oh well will see what happens tomorrow morning. I was thinking of putting needle in before pulling out the button too so that i get every bit of the dose!! hhaha.. I hope im getting enough dose, im only on 150 iu which is the lowest i think.

Jules, it's nothing to worry about, promise! If it's only a tiny drop either before or after or both it's just the vacuum of the vial and needle drawing out a minute amount. The amount is negligable and won't affect the dosage you are administering. It used to happen to us as well.

Thanks Slyder, that is good to know. I just thought the dose is so low that every bit counts! You have put my mind at rest. :)

Hi Jules
I would definitely not recommend putting the needle in before setting the pen. I did this once by mistake and I jiggled the needle around while doing it and it HURT!

Chez, yep changed my mind this morning and didn't do that. I pulled it out beforehand. I didn't get the drop before or after this time but every day is different! Today it really hurt putting the needle in and when i pulled it out had quite a bit of bleeding. Weird.. will avoid that part of my tummy maybe.

DW used to bleed like a stuck pig from certain areas, so just avoid that part and go for somewhere else. There's nothing you can do about it, so don't stress.

Sometimes you will just hit a surface vein and that will result in a bit of blood and some bruising. The nurse at my old clinic suggested injecting only in the "smile line" - that is the semi circle area under the belly button which is where most ladies will have a little bit of extra padding to try to minimise bruising.
