Femarra

Hi Ladies.

Wwaiting patiently for my cycle to start. This will be our first cycle TTC after my surgery last month to remove my severe endometriosis.

I had previously been taking Clomid, but my FS has recommended I give Femarra a try this time as he said that if you use clomid for too long, your body does not respond as well to it.

I'm just curious if any one has taken Femarra before for TTC? I haven't heard a lot about it on these forums?

Femara or letrozole is a drug more commonly used in the US for fertility treatment, but it is slowly becoming more popular here. The thing with clomid is that over time it can reduce the endometrial lining, and has a significant negative impact on the amount of cervical mucus you get at ovulation. Letrozole doesn't do this to anywhere near as great an extent as clomid.

Because my clinic is such a big fan of natural FETs as part of IVF, I used letrozole to induce ovulation every single time I had one. On clomid I had severe anxiety and became completely unable to function as a person. The one time I tried it I ended up off work for a week on stress leave, and after all that it didn't even make me ovulate! The letrozole had way less side effects for me than the clomid, and it worked at making me ovulate every single time I used it.

If you've got any other questions, just ask. I did a total of about 6 cycles on letrozole.

I have been diagonosed with Hypothryroidism after TTC for the standard 12mths. My specialist stating that i was probably not ovulating that whole time due to my thyriod level.
Anyway i used Letrozole for two rounds - ovulating on both occasions - but no pregnancy. I then started seeing a naturapath/accupunturist/chinese herbalist and this co-incided with my 3rd round of Letrozole resulting in a 6wk pregnancy.
My fertility specialist has now suggested another 3 rounds of Letrozole before we look at AI or IVF. I'm going to continue with my accupunturist as well as he has an awesome success rate and surely it can't hurt...
Hoping we have luck within the next 3 rounds.....

Does anyone have some Letrozole success stories?

Surely someone out there is doing Femera/Letrozole at current......
My gyno/obs with QFG seems to use it as a first go treatment for up to 6 cycles and also uses it with AIH as well.
I have completed 6 cycles now with the Letrozole and have found the last two i have had lower abdominal discomfort for at least 4 days leading up to extreme pain for around an hr (which i think is the actual ovulation).
I took my first tablet today for cycle 7 and have come to dread it a tad as i know given a week i'l be in pain again...........i just keep telling myself it will all be worth it if it works, and that this pain could be nothing on actual childbirth and im obviously willing to go through that.

you are not alone!!!!
i have just finished my first 5 days of taking femara/letrozole. i am feeling really good at the moment. i know this is the easy stage as nothing is happening inside just yet.
i did 8 months of clomid in 2007 and got sick each time.
i am really hoping that this drug will work and give me my :bfp: that i am prayer for.
i suppose because we are all so different it is hard to find someone who has had the same feeliings.
i don't get any pains at the time of ovulation. so hang in there.
even though the pain is bad, maybe it is good to know that something is going on inside you!!
