What to do?? help please
Hi everyone i have a bit of a dilema, got a BFP last week and after an ectopic late last year i am very dubious. The clinic have said i can get a scan at 6 weeks to check the position of the fetus but at that stage it can be very difficult to detect a heart beat and its better if i wait to 7 weeks. I just know if i have that scan at 6 weeks and cant see a heart beat i will have a week of hell, so do i just be patient ? Would love to know what you all think and what you would do ? cheers

Congrats on the BFP!!!! :hooray:
I would just wait till you know you can see a heartbeat as hard as it may be

Scooby, me again... I seem to be following you everywhere at the moment!
I think if you're worried about another ectopic, then the earlier the better - keeping in mind that it may be too early to detect a heart beat and you may need to have a follow up scan soon afterwards.
That said, I had a scan at 6 weeks and 3 days (yesterday) and saw a lovely heartbeat blinking away at me. It will all depend on the equipment your clinic has, and whether they are going with an internal scan or not.
My FS used this site to give me a run down of different dates that I can expect things to happen - according to those calculations, a heartbeat shouldn't have been detected until the 30th, but we saw it on the 26th. With my first pregnancy a heartbeat was detected at 6 weeks and 5 days.
I think you'll be fine with the earlier scan.

A very big congratulations!
Personally, I would go with the 7 week scan. The week extra waiting will be better for you (less of a worry) than a week extra of waiting with the added burden of also hoping for a heartbeat in week 7 if you didn't hear it in week 6. Do you get what I mean? i had one at week 7 but didn't have the choice of week 6. The mental anguish is lessened if you wait a week!

Hi Scooby,
I dont know much about ectopic pg but is there a high chance with IVF because you bypass the whole travelling down the tube thing. I see from the other threads that your HGC levels are rising nicely so try and hold out to the seven weeks. Easy for me to say one I am not up the duff ( god I think that saying is so funny:cryinglaugh:) and I have never had an ectopic pg. Stay +ve we are all here for you.

Hi Scooby,
Congratulations on your :bfp:
I was on another site and it said that the heart starts to beat on week 5, however the heart is on the outside of the baby and not in the chest cavity yet (that happens in weeks 6 & 7) so I agree with Butterfly warrior you may be able to hear the heart beating even if it is just faintly. Take care and big  stay intouch and let us know how you go with your scan.

hi Girls
soory i have been MIA but really trying to keep my mind occupied with other things. Had BT the other day and HCG was 4400 and prog was still 600:wtf: So nurses at the clinic convinced me to book in with the ob which was very scary, but because of my history she wants to scan me next week so i will be 6 W 2d so im going to have to be very strong if there is no heart beat. Its weird cause with DS i was scanned at 6w 3d and heart beat was 88bpm and yolk sac was enlarged and they said i would mc, which obvisouly didnt happen!! so i will have to remember this come wednesday.
Thank you so much again for all your support you truly are all so wonderful, BW you have just been awesome and thanks for that website V. helpful. And i am soooooo happy for you that you got to see that little heart beating, its just wonderful and so deserved :loveshower:

Scooby, my scan was at 6w3d and the heartbeat showed quite clearly. From what I can gather, if it's an internal scan, a heartbeat should be visible, but a regular abdominal scan may not pick it up until after 7 weeks. Good luck!

We got a HB at 6w 5d so you might just get lucky. If you don't, please try not to stress might just be a little early. Also try not to worry about the progesterone level. Mine has never been tested throughout this pregnancy as my docs didn't believe it to be necessary.
-
Scooby, will they give you progesterone injections to boost your levels?
-
sending you lots of :stickyvibesgirl::stickyvibesboy:, hope to hear great news about your scan.
-
Scooby hun just giving you a  and :goodluck2:

Scooby, I realised I had no idea what normal progesterone levels in pregnancy are... and google has just informed me that yours are MASSIVE! Are you still using pessaries/crinone? You've got extremely good HCG levels too, so chances are this pregnancy is going fine. And now I WISH my clinic had let me know what my numbers were! They do say that high progesterone levels could indicate twins (how many embryos did you have transferred?), but with being an IVF pregnancy, chances are it's just from the luteal phase support they give you.

Scooby - honey I'm not sure if i have congratulated you - so darn happy for you sweet!!! :cheer:
I had a scan done at 6 weeks and 3 days also and it didn't show much of a hb to my untrained eye. i didn't have a chance to ask the question however as the doc conducting the u/s told me straight away that it looked like a very healthy baby with a healthy hb.
GL sweety - wishing you well!!!

Hi girls
Yes progesterone levels are MASSIVE even FS was amazed as i was only on 1 crinone a day with no other support, he couldnt believe it, they were up around 750 when i got +BT so they have dropped a little, stopped crinone straight after +BT so 2 weeks ago. I had only had 1 embie transferred i know they can split but i think my hcg are more indicitive of a single.
PLC: thanks for the congrats, i will join you soon just trying to build up the courage!
Thanks girls for all th +ive energy, im feelin it all  Hopefully wed i can get that little bfp next to my signiture.:grouphug:
