Too early to see on u/s scan??

Hi Ladies,

I am pregnant with #3 here, totally unplanned and am in complete shock.

Went to have a scan yesterday to determine due date and whilst i was expecting to be about 6-7 weeks the scan completely shocked me too.
I had an internal scan done and the baby could not be seen. The sac was there and was empty. The measurements of the sac estimated that i was about 5w3days preg. The sonographer said that it may be normal not be able to see it as the embryo needs to be at least 6 weeks before it can be visible. Has this happened to anybody else?

The sonographer also mentioned about the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy and that if i get severe pain and bleeding to go to an hospital. This too has thrown me out. I am getting worried. As if the shock of having #3 wasn't enough, now i have these to worry about.

Can anybody shed some light??

I had a ultrasound at 5.3 weeks as well. Saw sac but nothing else, 2 weeks later there was a little bean.

Sehra, I had this too... scan at five weeks, with just a sac, two weeks later a lovely little butterfly heartbeat... you'll be fine :)

i have been given another referral to repeat the scan in 2 weeks, which is next week.
