Over the last weeks I've noticed that the non-stick is coming off my rice cooker.
I don't mind if the rice sticks but I'm a bit concerned about what might be under the non-stick getting onto out food and making it toxic.
We use it at least twice a week.
Does anyone have any idea what they use under non-stick surfaces?
It could be anything under the non-stick surface, probably alluminium.
But I know that I have read that some non-stick surfaces are dangerous in themselves when they start to break down. This is particularly the case with Teflon and I think some others as well.
You could maybe contact the manufacturer and ask if they sell replacement bowls. Might be cheaper than replacing the entire machine.
can't help you with an answer sorry hun - just letting you know ours did the same thing - and after a bit of thought, we decided to be safe rather than sorry and got a new cooker.
Yeah I feel really dubious about non-stick surfaces. Then again we just use one of those cheapie beige plastic microwave cookers for our rice. The plastic is probably not much better than teflon! Are there such thing as ceramic ones? I think ceramic things are quite safe.... it shouldn't stick much more than if you stove-top cook using the absorption method... *thinking out loud*

I feel a bit guilty about throwing away something that still works IYKWIM.
I guess I can give it to the op shop....

ETA: a lot of Op Shops don't accept electricals these days. I'd do humanity a favour and put it out for hard rubbish... LOL
Agreed...Dump it and get a new one. Let me know when you buy a new one!!
The boys will love to play with it, I bet it gets lots more wear in the backyard!
You cant cook in it anymore, so thats the next best thing - or a potplant holder....or use it to hold scraps for the compost.....or cover it will pictures cut out of maga- ok now Im being stupid!

I got a smaller one than the old one - 8 cups instead of industrial sized :)
I don't have a rice dish on the menu for a few days so I'm planning coconut rice for desert tomorrow night just to break it in.
