Conieving a baby

Hi my name is Kara 22 Iam just enquiring how long it takes to fall pregnant after having the implanon taken out as I have already had the withdrawal last month on the 13th of may a day after I had the implanon taken out which was the 12th of may n had the bleeding for 6 days,I have been trying to conieve since the 21st n 22nd of may for a baby and was just wondering if I would have any luck falling pregnant in the next couple of weeks could anyone please help me out with these questions Iam asking at the moment

Hello Kara, no one will be able to tell you if you have fallen pregnant or not! Different women stopping different forms of contraception take different amounts of time to fall pregnant.

My sister was on the BCP (birth control pill), stopped and fell pregnant two weeks later. I stopped several months ago and I'm still not pregnant yet.

Each woman's body reacts differently.

If I calculate your days right, you should have ovulated around 25-26 May, which would mean you are about 8 DPO (days past ovulation). Sounds like you DTD around the right time, assuming you have a standard 28 day cycle!

Anyway assuming all those things above, you are currently in the TWW (two week wait). You've just got to wait until about 14DPO before you can do a pregnancy test. Good luck!

I don't know too much about the specifics, but as the implanon is a hormone birth control it could take a few cycles for your body to get back to normal. That said, there are some people who can fall pregnant straight away, but just remember that it can take time for your body to start ovulating again.

I've also had the implanon taken out (yesterday infact) and am wondering the same things.

The only advice I can give you - and myself - is what my DR said. She said for me it may take between 3 - 12 months as I've proven to be fertile. She did say that after having so much progesterone it may take a few cycles to thicken up the walls of our uterus to sustain a pregnancy.

Here's hoping for a very quick conception for both of us! I'm praying :pray: that it will be this cycle or next that I'll get a :bfp:.

I recieved you're message this afternoon I have no idea what DTD means or 14DPO means either so could you please explain,My fiance and I are still currently trying for a baby at the moment as I have a did a pregnancy test but it came up negative so its a bit early to tell at the moment so when do you suggest that I should do another one.As I spoke to a qualified nurse from the Mater Private Hospital Redlands and was told that if I dont get my menstrual circle period with in four weeks time that I should do a pregnancy test with in five weeks time.From Kara22

Hi Kara,

DTD means doing the deed, or having sex. DPO means days past ovulation.

If you were to count the withdrawal bleed as a period (i'm not sure if you do or not... but lets say we are) then ovulation would usually be about day 14 (day 1 being the first day of bleeding before midday) give or take a few days either side, or about the 26th. If you were to get pregnant then a positive test would show up about 14DPO (or 14 days past the 26th), about the 9th of May, which would also be around the time your period is due assuming you have a cycle thats about 28 days.

Of course, theres some question about whether the withdrawal bleed counts as a period, and also whether ovulation does occur in that first cycle. Don't be disappointed if it doesn't happen first go, but I hope you are one of the lucky ones who conceives quickly.

Kara, it might take a few months for your body to return to normal.

It may be a good idea to learn a little more about your cycles, note the dates and length of your periods when they return properly.

Kara, i second Lulu's advice - i think you should learn about your cycle and trying to concieve.

Have you been taking folate? If you are planning to become pregnant you should be doing so.

Also, many women find that their period does not return for quite some time after implanon - it is not uncommon to have to wait 6 months for your period to return.

Also you will find that many couples who are trying find that no matter how well you plan,(having charted their cycle for months, understanding their mucus etc) concieving just doesnt always happen so quickly.

Speaking from my own experience, I had implanon removed on 11th of January this year and am still not pregnant. My periods returned after about 6 weeks and I?ve had cycles varying in length from 28-36 days. Things have been getting progressively more ?normal? and I think that my periods are getting heavier ? from less than 48 hours to over 3 days now with a good flow. I hopeful that this month might be good for me!

I was on and off the pill for 9 years until 2006.

Our DD was conceived without planning using withdrawal method of conception (note - it doesn't work as contraception!!). Although an amazing and blessed surprise, it was a surprise! I always thought it would be difficult for me to conceive from my miscarriage in 05, and the fact that I tract my cycles and they ranged between 20 - 45 days. They were never on time and sometimes AF only lasted a couple of days.

My point being not to gloat in the slightest, but to try and assure us that our bodies are very strange and are capable of anything. It's our bodies, not our minds or hearts, that know when the best time to conceive is.

I don't know if this has helped at all. I hope it has. I'm in the waiting game too now, until my body has recovered from the implanon and we can get a :bfp:

Im on BCP and am thinking of going off to TTC and with my first we had unproected DTD for 3yrs before i got my surprise. so i am wondering could i wing it again? lol

Hi Beautiful Madness,Angie T,Ruth O8 and Kitt3n as well Lulu2 I understand what all you ladies are saying with the help and advice that you giving me and I appreciate it but the thing is when I first had the implanon conceptive taken out of my arm back in april/may 2002 when I had my first child it took me two months to fall pregnant and I found out that I was six weeks pregnant on the 12th of july 2002 so Iam not sure now of how long it is going to take my body to go back to normal as this would be the second time that I have had the implanon as my periods werent always regular on time before I had the thing put in two years ago so maybe I should go back to my doctor and ask a few questions,as my fiance and I have been doing the deed since te 21st n 22nd of may last month and are still currently having intercourse at the moment.As I was told by a qualifield and registered nurse that Iam at a high risk of falling pregnant now with out being on any sort of conceptive at the moment.From Kara 22

Yes Iam taking the Elevit pregnancy folic acid tablets at the moment as I have been taking them since last month as that is when I have been trying for a baby since last month on the 21st of may 2008.Is it true if I keep doing the deed alot more that I will have a much higher chance of falling or no as that is what diannescruffy told me last night when I was in the lounge room chat room! Cara - as we've mentioned several times in live chat, as soon as you stop ANY form of birth control (even missing a single pill) you are at a highER risk of falling pregnant than what you were when you were on that birth control - that doesn't mean you're going to fall pregnant straight away - however, given that you WANT to fall pregnant, i wouldn't consider it a "risk" anyway. it's just a simple statement that you are more likely to fall pregnant now than you were a month ago. perhaps your nurse is trying to convey that to you - that you are more likely to fall pregnant now than you were whilst you had the implanon in - i don't consider that high risk - just slightly more chance than if you were still using birth control

MORE LIKELY isn't a guarantee. falling pregnant within a couple of months with your first pregnancy has no bearing on your chances of falling pregnant within a couple of months this time around. each attempt is different. There are multitudes of women on BB at the moment that are trying to conceive - many of them were pregnant within a few months first time around, and second or third time, they've gone over a year and are having to consult with fertility specialists now for assistance. each attempt is different so you need to stop comparing this time to your first time. it will happen when the time is right

as has been mentioned to you in live chat - you need to accept that the implanon is a chemical manipulation of your hormones. there is NO GUARANTEE that it will leave your system immediately. you may find that you don't return to a "normal" cycle for quite some time - and it may be very wise for you to look at some of the "charting your cycle" threads on BB, or visit fertility friend and learn about your cycle. learn about the changes that occur from when you have your period (AF) through ovulation, to the end of your cycle. everyone is different, so as much as the general norm is to ovulate sometime around CD14 (14 days from beginning of AF), there is no guarantee this will happen for YOU. you need to learn how YOUR body works, and none of us can tell you how that is going to happen. you also can't tell for a couple of cycles after your implonon is removed as your body is still "recovering" from that hormonal manipulation. nothing says you won't get pregnant - but also nothing says you will.

the timing of ovulation is the key in knowing when your best chances of conceiving are - and you need to do some research for yourself to identify the changes that happen in your own body - if you have sex with your partner too early or too late, there is minimal to no chance of a pregnancy occuring. take some time to do some research and understand your body. for what it's worth - a medical professional is highly unlikely to consider you to be having trouble conceiving a child until you have had 12 complete cycles of attempting to conceive. given that you've had only a withdrawal bleed at this stage, i doubt that this first period of time would even be considered as it may not be an ovulatory cycle. i would hazard a guess that they would count the start of your next AF as the start of your first "cycle" off implanon.
