1 sleep a day
Hi everyone,
I've been searching for this thread but can't seem to find it so I'm so sorry but I'm going to ask the question again ;).
Olivia is 13 months old and has started being a nightmare to try and settle for her sleeps and overnight. I've been thinking that maybe she is telling me she is ready for one sleep a day. How old was your little one when they went to one sleep a day and also what was your routine when then did have one sleep a day.
Thanks everyone. Just trying to readjust our schedule but once again I have no idea where to start.
TIA,
Dan.

DS has now just begun having the one day sleep. I did try when he was about 13 months, but it didn't work, he just got cranky and he still needed to have his arvo sleep. He used to have a sleep at 9.30 (he would be up at around 6.30 in the morning) and then would sleep for about an hour, and then I would put him down at 2.30 again for another hour.
However, at day care, they would stretch him out till around 11.30 and he would have an hour there, and would still be cranky when I picked him up, and then fall asleep at around 5.00 - which isn't ideal.
Sooo... we now put him down at 11.30 (most days he falls asleep straight away cos he is just sooo tired) and he sleeps for 2 hours at day care, sometimes 3 here.
Then goes to bed at 8.30 at night.
I would say just try it, if it doesn't work, just go back to what you are doing, or extend the time for nap time by half an hour or something every week.

Nina was 11 months old when she dropped down to one sleep a day.
She used to sleep at around 9.30/10am then again at 2.30/3pm, then when she dropped down to one sleep it was around midday that she would have a sleep, and she'll sleep for about 3 hours.

DD was getting harder to put down at night so we tried to move to one nap a day. It happens somewhere between 1130 and 1230 depending on what's been happening. At child care she is flat out playing (they go outside in the morning then have lunch then nap) so she sleeps about 12ish and sleeps for an hour (to the second!). At home she will sometimes sleep a bit longer then that. If she has had a super busy day, she might nap in the car on the way home from child care or need a second nap if at home but that hardly happens. She usually goes to bed between 730 and 830 at night depending.
It took DD about 2 weeks to settle into this routine. We were flexible with it and let her have a second nap if she needed it (which she did for the first 3 days).
HTH and good luck!

Natty is gradually changing to one day sleep. Some days she just won't go to sleep in the morning, so we just leave her awake until after lunch when she seems tired, then put her to bed. She generally sleeps for up to 2 hours, though it varies these days.

Around 1 year old Julia decided only one sleep a day. This is usually after lunch around midday or 1pm and she sleeps until 3.30pm or so. However if she sleeps in the car in the morning when we have been out and has a doze she decides no sleepies during the day! but is knackered by 6pm and sleeps through the night.
