All in ones - one size fits al cloth... help!!!

hi everyone
Well in a few months i will have 2 in nappies!
I am thinking is it too late to swap to cloths?

There are so many types out there.... what should i look for

All in ones with booster pads?
Do the one size adjustable ones do the trick... ie difference between newborn and a 10kg bub?
What brand is best?
Do you know of any discount?

I find i spend about $30/ 3 weeks atm with DD
and with the newbie it will probably be $60/ 3 weeks....

so that is like $1000 in one year!!

It's never too late for cloth!! Even if you dont buy until #2 is born - you'll still get a combined total of say 4.5 yrs out of them.

If you're looking at using a simple system I think a lot of people would recommend a fitteds and covers system BabyBeehinds Bamboo nappies. BBH recommend 35 nappies for two in cloth and the you'd probably want 3-5 PUL covers and maybe some wool covers if you plan on using cloth once they're sleeping overnight (also some night boosters down the track!).
This amount of nappies would need to wash every second day. You may also want o get some Terry or Flanny flats for your newborn until she/he grows into the BBH's.
And maybe a couple of AIO's just for carers use.

If you were thinking pocket nappies I can recommend BumGenius V3.0. They're more quick drying than the Bamboo BBH but not suitable absorbency wise for night time use.

There are a LOT of nappies out there so it really depends whether you would prefer a system or a bit of everything but if you go the bit of everything route beware; its addictive ;)

ETA: In terms of cost, try putting $25 a week aside for now that way that's ten nappies before baby comes and then you won't have to dig as deep into the 'bonus'.

Also, I forgot the BBH currently have Buy 2 get 1 free (don't know how long for) & they do a sixteen week layby as well.

PP, I nearly switched to MCN (modern cloth nappies) before DS2 was born, but decided against it as I was too confused by all the different types. In the end I found having 2 in nappies was so expensive and I was feeling guilty at the landfill, so I switched to MCN when DS2 was 1 yo. DS1 TTd not long later, but for a while they were both in cloth.

My only regret is not switching earlier. I made my money back (by not buying sposies) in under 6 months. When I think of all that money that was wasted on boxes of sposies!! And I love the MCN. So the best advice I can give you, is GO FOR IT.

There are so many types available, try joining in the cloth nappies general chatter - the girls in there are so helpful. And Nelle has written a great post on MCN for beginners - it's a sticky in the nappies section, go check that out.

I got started by going to a nappy party for Baby Beehinds nappies. That's not a bad way to start, as you can see what they are like and ask any questions. Plus if other people buy from the party you can get free nappies!!

I have both my girls in cloth. I'm using Baby Beehind fitted nappies. Emily was in AIO's until last week, when the fitted nappies started fitting her better.
I have about 25, and have just ordered another 10, and I wash every 2nd day. I have a variety of covers. PUL, wool & fleece.
You will definitely save $$$ by using MCN. Like Ashley said, Baby Beehinds have a 16 week layby which is handy.

I have only just started cloth with #3.....lol.

I originally bought some BG's for DD but she TT soon after. I've just discovered that the BG's work on DS1 (who is 4 and 15kg) overnight as well as doing DS2 who is 3 mo. I'm thinking of buying more of them as I find them great for drying time too as well as for trimness.

Personally I use BBB's for nighttime on DS2 but find they just take too long to dry to use during the day also. When DS2 was a NB I actually used my BG's as a cover (folding the rise down as well as on the smallest snaps) with out the pocket stuffing (obviously) with some infant prefolds. So at the moment the BG's for me have by far been the most versatile and adaptable nappies I have bought.
