Hi
I've started OI (and not responding as well as they hoped) and was wondering if anyone could tell me how they went on it. Whether it was successfull, how many cycles did you have to do. If it wasn't successfully, what happens next.
Thanks

tiggerlily - can i ask you to give us some more detail about the type of OI you're going through - is it clomid, or injectibles? have you had a period of "down regulation" with synarel/lucrin before starting injections if that is the case? it makes it easier to help if we know a little more, however, i'll share my little tale now anyway and hope that it helps in some way
i used clomid for three cycles - varying dosages, and i didn't respond at all. in the end i was referred for OI via injectible FSH. our frist cycle, they tried to "down reg". i was asked to take synarel nasal spray for about a fortnight to ensure my homone levels were flat. had a BT and all was good. started FSH (puregon) injections and after 6 days, i went for a BT to check estrogen levels. minimal to no response, so my dosage was increased for four days, and another BT. still nothing. cycle cancelled. second cycle started out the same, synarel, BT, all going well - and we started puregon again - but at a higher dose for a few days, then stepped down to a lower one. day 6 BT was just as devastating as the first time round. NOTHIN! so cycle three, the FS decided to do something different. instead of a full down reg cycle, i had a BT (for some people, it would be based on their period arriving - i don't have visits from AF, so BT is it). flat hormones, so we started the puregon straight away. day 7, off to the nurse for an ultrasound - no BT's this time! all going great guns - 3 beautiful dominant follies. i had to grow them a little longer, so i was given an antagonist shot there and then, and had to do that same shot at the same time for next three days to stop ovulation happening too early. day four i had trigger shot, and the day after that iui (intra uterine insemination - my FS won't do OI with timed intercourse). i ended up with mild hyperstimulation, and a BFN on that cycle, but at least we got to the point we actually got somewhere! my body didn't like the down reg process, it would go into a drug induced menopausal state and didn't want to wake up again!
i have had two more OI cycles since then - the second one resulted in a BFP but i unfortunately miscarried early. we then moved to IVF as our clinic aren't keen on doing more than 3 IUI's before moving on. our second embryo transfer again resulted in BFP with early m/c. we're now about to start another IUI cycle as our local clinic for IVF only runs every few months and we don't want to have to wait forever. i have confidence that it can and does work (my bestie has a little girl from their third IUI cycle), and am happy to try this process again in the hopes that i don't have to do IVF again!
hope that all helps a little (sorry if it's a bit long winded!) - good luck

Hi Briggy's Girl
It did help a lot.
I started straight away on puregon (17 days of injections so far). They started me on 25 and I've had to increase this twice, now on 50. I had my first ultrasound on Friday but the follies are still a little too small. Back on Tuesday for more blood tests. Hopefully I"ll be able to have the pregnyl this week.
I know its only early days for me.
Once again, thanks heaps.
All the best for you too.
no probs!
i ended up on dosages varying from 150-200 before i got a decent result. they tend to start you as low as possible and build it up rather than going too hard too fast and ending up having to cancel due to too high a response....

We have had 4 Oi cycles all with BFN. I have had 2 clomid cycles one was an untracked cycle as i needed a break from the trips to the clinic. My two injectable cycles have take 26 days of injecting to get to trigger. Our clinic is wanting us to move on to IUI which we are taking some time to think about. Just go wiht the flow you would rather take your time then end up with OHSS. Good luck
Hi, I had 3 rounds of OI with pregnyl and puregon injections. Started at 50 and slowly moved up. All 3 resulted in negatives.
We were then moving to an appt with the fs to discuss harvesting and one of the nurses suggested we do a round of IUI while we wait for the appt. Very glad we did - got a postive result!!!
I was also seeing an acupuncturist at the time, had cleaned my diet up, stopped all caffine and was walking a couple of times a week.
Good Luck and hope your journey is short!!!
What clinic were you at Sharon? I'm at FSWA.
I went through Hollywood. Found the majority of nurses to be brilliant! The odd one seemed a bit grumpy but maybe just an off day. They seemed to care about me, not treat me like a number and offer different suggestions when I asked, not just fob me off to wait for the fs appt.
Thanks Sharon for your quick reply. Best of luck with this pregnancy, x.
