Reflux??
Ok, does anybody know about or can describe the symptoms of reflux?
two nights in a row about 2-3 hours after I have gone to bed I have had a strong sensation that felt like a burning/acidy travelling from my chest up through my throat and towards my mouth?
never experienced anything like it before, I had indigestion with my first pregnancy but this was different and more intense and sudden, it righted it's self when I got up and head some quick eaze and a drink of milk, I also slept with an extra pillow(much to the disgust of my poor aching back and hips), but I have been feeling really indigestioney though out the day, I should add that both nights I had a late tea the first night I had vegimite toast and last night it was mild indian beef curry?
any ideas or suggestions welcome, thanks Allie xxx

Hi,
That sounds like reflux to me.
I wake up choking on stomach acid that has come up into my throat when i have been asleep.
I take strong meds for mine because mine is severe (long story). I also sleep propped right up with 3 pillows and 2 baby quilts folded up. I also sit up for at least 30 mins after eating or drinking.
I would say what you ate before bed might have aggravated it. Did you sit up for long after?
Its good that quik eze and milk eased it for you. If it gets to a point where its not helping, speak to your OB about it.

ooooooo late tea..vegemite....curry!!!! wow girl did u want reflux???? lol..they are the worst things to eat!! i know tho, they are so yummy. its a bad idea to eat too late when pregnant as u WILL wake up during the night feeling horrid.
ive been having heartburn for about 4 weeks now and i hate it. I have learnt different ways to deal with it tho. such as cutting down on vegemite (i know thats the worst bit lol) and caffiene and spicy food and tomatoes..etc etc etc. u will work out what gives u reflux and what doesnt. i dont take anything for it apart from a big glass of cold milk or a bowl of vanilla icecream. I dont like to take anything else.
if it gets too annoying for u go see your doc. he will be able to tell you what u can and cant do about it :) good luck and ohhhh i feel sorry for u! xoxox

Allie, glad you've got it sorted. It's so horrible!!
My first experience with reflux was waking up to vomit about an hour after I put my head on the pillow. Bad!!!! Thought I had food poisoning (blamed Maccas!). Then the second time (garlic bread and fizzy drink), I was also vomiting - the acidity!!! OMG. And posted on BB to be told that yep, it's reflux. The third time (I'm evidently a very slow learner) I had the most sensational lasagne at a little Italian trattoria and drank almost 2 litres of milk that night because of the acid reflux.
The next day I saw my ob, who laughed and warned me off garlic, curries and anything spicy, fatty, fizzy drinks, chocolate or anything too sugary. And told me to try to eat by 6:30pm and elevate the pillows. The antacid tablets didn't really do much for me at night, but are good for during the day. I've also discovered Mylanta liquid is good and my Ob prescribed Zantac tablets for nighttime. I haven't had to take those too often since I made the changes to my diet and timing of my meals. But sometimes it's just not possible to avoid eating late...

I've had heartburn/reflux HEAPS tonight before I realised what it was. I've been working on a friend's baby quilt, bending over the material on the carpet sticking pins in, and getting heaps of burning in my throat!! But I've also been eating all the wrong foods - oops !!! Better look into that now!!
