TTC after ectopic and surgery....

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to whether there is a hard and fast rule as to when I can start TTC after surgery from an ectopic pregnancy? My life has returned to a degree of normality after my ec preg 9 weeks ago, I'm back at work now and I really want to try again soon (even though I am petrified that I'll have another ec preg). I had a normal cycle last month, and physically I feel well again, but does the fact that I had major surgery affect when I can confidently TTC again?:doh:

I should probably also add that the reason I had surgery was because my fallopian tube ruptured, as a result I lost the tube...

very sorry for your loss but glad to hear things are getting back to normal for you.

i can't really anwer your question as my experience has been different, but i would think if everything is healing and you feel ok emotionally then it should be ok...can totally understand your fear of it happening again though and i can only say it does start to ease with time :hug:

i have a friend who has had 3 eptopics... the most recent one was in may, and all up she's had 4 ops, 3 for the removal of the 3 eptopics, and one due to remove the scarred tissue... she's also got endometriosis, and like you has had one of her fallopian tubes removed after the recent one. it has taken her harder to recover due to the numbers of times she's had caesarians so she's going to wait one year & then do ivf, because if she falls prg naturally, then there is a chance that it will be another eptopic as her remaining tube has some scarring. and soon she is due for another op in there... just wanted to tell you a bit about my friend so you know you're not alone in this...

i personally can not help you as i haven't had the experience myself, but im thinking that if your body is ready - no pain or soreness left, then you can ttc as soon as you are ready. also if your remaining tube is all clear? perhaps you'd consider ivf too, to just have the fertilised egg/s implanted in your womb to not risk your remaining tube?

Thanks for your feedback guys, Dr says that I can try whenever I feel ready, but there's part of me that is absolutely petrified that it's all gonna happen again.... I'm seeing a psychologist on Friday, I'm hoping that I will feel better emotionally if I talk to a professional about it all. Thing is that my fiance seems very unkeen at the moment, I know that it's because he too is scared that it will all go wrong again, and he's worried that next time around he may lose me too as it was very touch and go the first time around. Guess I'll just give it a bit more time...

I have been thinking about you. Glad to hear you are back on the mend & back at work. I am feeling exactly the same as you at the moment. Absolutely petrified that it will happen again. I also had one normal cycle and am trying this cycle. I am in the tww and really scared. Part scared of not falling pregnant and mostly scared of getting UTD and waiting to find out if it's another ectopic. The only thing I am reassured by is that because I know that I am in a high risk group, I can monitor the preg from the start and hopefully treat an ectopic before it becomes life threatening. I am trying to keep level headed but it is really tricky. The fact that it happened once before gives you heaps more knowledge for the future. Once I get UTD, I plan to monitor the first few weeks closely with BT & have a couple of early scans. I hope my thoughts and experiences have help a little. Take care :hug:

Long time no speak! It's scary isn't it! My fiance and I aren't 'trying' at the moment, I'd like to I think... but I'm really not sure, and for the same reasons as you.. I know that no one can tell me that it'll definitely be ok, but I wish that they could! It'd make it so much easier! Good luck with your journey, I'll say a fairy prayer for you - keep me posted xo

will do. I'm thinking of testing tomorrow. I am even scared of doing the test. I have similar symptoms to last time. Slight nausea & NO sore BB's. I'm scared of getting a feint line, as that is what began my concern last time. I would rather no second line to a feint one. :(

Your story in very similar to mine....

I had an ectopic pregnancy 9 weeks ago and also lost a tube, I had a normal cycle this month and like you I am trying again. I see a herbalist and she has speed my cycle up so much, I used to ovulate at day 24 and now ovulate at day 14....

Doc also said that ectopics always rupture between 6-7 weeks so us girls bascially have a week from when we can test for a pregnancy to possible rupture....I'm going to go straight to an early pregnancy clinic if I ever have a positive test again.

Like you I am also scared, but believe all things happen for a reason and try to stay strong....got very emotional the last couple of nights. Hubby is away and I'm in the TWW and I can't help but dream and talk to my possible baby!!

It's hard isn't it? I am much better about it all now, but I do still get teary sometimes - I've decided that the crying is normal and I don't try to justify it anymore.. Fingers crossed we will both have our wishes answered one day!

I know it's hard....I hadn't cried for over 3 weeks...but started again this week!!

I am seeing my doctor today for pregnancy test...think I'm just being paranoid but thought it is best to check it out early:pray:

Let me tell you my story. I had an ecoptic at 9wks (managed to catch it just before it ruptured) but lost my right tube anyway given the size of the pregnancy. Started ttc again about 3 months later (I didnt get af again until about that time). I had one early miscarriage (it was a complete natural so no d&c required). I fell pg again the next cycle after my m/c. So I had 3 pregnancies within 12 months. I had an early scan at 7wks - bub was in the right place, and I asked the sonographer to tell me which ovary had released the egg, and they told me it was the right one (where there is no tube). I had that double checked and yes it was correct, no tube, but still managed to get pg from the right side!!

Dont loose faith, I know its scary but there is no reason why you should have another ectopic (as the tube is now gone so not likely to repeat due to scar tissue). Where the tube remains after it has been damaged, another ep is likely.

The drs told me it might take up to two years to get pg again and that chances of another ecoptic were high. But pfffft to that! I went to a herbalist/healer and with her help and some feral tasting herbs, I now have an amlost one year old healthy little girl.

Believe in yourself and your body, and think lots of positive thoughts, meditation is good too. There is no reason why you cant have a healthy pregnancy.

Good luck and ttc whenever you feel ready emotionally and physiscally.

I even used to do silly things like change my FF ticker every now and then just in case the previous one wasnt "lucky"!!

I've experienced the blighted ovum after ttc after 11 months. also found out that I suffered from anovulation, so had to use fertomid to ovulate, fell pregnant after first dose of fertomid, had a d&c at 12 weeks because of a blighted ovum. Done with my 3rd af after d&c. also started with the fertomid yesterday.
Anyone experienced something simularily??
