When did your bubs graduate from wrapping to sleeping bag? DD is tightly wrapped with arms in as well but I want to start putting her in a sleeping bag so I can keep her at the right temp but her hands keep waking her up or pushing the dummy out. How do you make the change?
Kanda. My DD hated being wrapped! she always wanted her arms free near her face
So she actually went into a sleeping bag at about 3 weeks old and is still in one now,
You can only give it a try! :) She settled best this way but yes a lot of babys will wake themselves up suddenly without wrapping (she is sometimes too)... hence why wrapping is encouraged for wayward hands.
However it wasnt the way for us :)
Gosh i can't remember when my DS went to sleeping bags, i think it might have been around 4 months old. But having said that he's never had a dummy and he was never happy with his hands wrapped so the transition was never an issue for us. He still sleeps in a sleeping bag now at almost 18months old!! The transition may just take some time, sleeping bags are great.
DD was in one at 10 weeks, co-incided with the start of her thumb sucking as well!!!
still in one to this day!!

I wrapped my daughter up for all her sleeps until she was 7 months or so. She too would wake herself up with her hands. I started putting her to bed at night on her tummy when she was so tired that she was less likely to move around and wake herself up. Then slowly graduated to day sleeps as well. She still does pull her dummy out but I found that the tummy sleeping was a pretty good way to keep her hands secure.
You could also try slipping bubs hands into the sleeping bag arms a bit more. Pull the sleeves down to cover the hands and they'll be less likely to get in the way.
Good luck and don't feel pressured to stop wrapping...just go with what works and feels right ;)
DS was getting out of his swaddle by the time he was 6 weeks old and never had a dummy so I don't know how this would go with an older baby...but what I did was swaddle him with one arm free for day naps for a few days (but both arms swaddled at night). Then I moved it to just wrapping him firmly with both arms free during the day, one arm at night.
Then I put him in the sleeping bag with a very light cotton blanket over the top, tucked in firmly (I pushed rolled up towels between the cot rails and mattress so that it was nice and tight) so he still had that snug feeling. The blanket tightness loosened over time...so a graduated approach. Don't know if that might give you any ideas.
He loves the sleeping bag. He is in a big bed now but still with the sleeping bag!
