Camera recommendation??

I am looking for a new camera and some of you seem rather knowledgeable about cameras! I bought a Pentax digital about 4 years ago for about $450 and still not happy with pix it takes indoors. i have used to booklet and tried all sort of combinations of things but to no avail. Outside pix are lovely! I would like an new digital for around $500- any ideas?? Is shutter lag still a prob with digitals?

Try a canon ixus around 8 megapixel.awesome little camera and great quality,see if you can get one with image stabiliser in it,most of them do..i use canon for all my pro gear and an ixus for when i want everyday happy snaps/holiday snaps
