A question
I was looking at some pics on my computer the other day and came across this pic of my Nephew. I noticed they had a needle going into his umbilical cord.. I asked my sister (hiya Rach) if she knew what they were doing and she hadn't noticed it before..
Can someone take a look an clear this up for me  It bugs me

Are they taking cord blood?
-
Well that was my first thought but Rach said she didn't know anything about it... and I thought you had to give permission for that
Plus it was in Townsville and I don't think they do cord blood donation there....

hmm.. dunno then! hehe. Maybe they stole it for some secret govt experiment ;)
Do they do blood tests or anything with cord blood?
-
I did wonder if they were just taking blood to test it for stuff.. I mainly wondered if it was normal practice

They were probably taking blood for cross match (to see what blood group) he was... especially if your sister has a negative blood type. This was done in the same manner to DD during my C-Sect. Much less traumatic for baby than a heel ***** which they do at 3 days.

Jack had some breathing issues when he was born as in he wasn't so I wonder if they were checking hos blood type incase he needed blood??
