Do you have a baby who's sweaty all the time?

When DD was younger, she would wake up with sweats all over her head. Now that's gone but she's still quite a sweaty bub. I just purchased an air conditionner for my bedroom and living room as our other ones weren't cool enough to cool her off. She's wearing lightweighted cotton clothes but still manages to get all sweaty all the time. At night, I put a light cotton blanket on her and I'm afraid that she would get a cold since our air cond is on full blast. I wear long sleeves to go sleep plus my down blanket while DD sleeps in her pyjamas with a light blanket.

Does anyone have a baby who's warm and sweaty?

My son was from birth and still is now 3 years later. I was told that it's completely normal, I just change his sheets more regulary than my daughters, I also shower him everymorning. But it certainly had me more than a little worried in the beginning. I was told it has something to do with his body having a good metabalism. I'd get it checked out in your case, it's always worth finding out why it's happening!

My friend's baby also sweats a lot... could be a normal thing for babies... hope it's nothing bad!

My DD1 sweated a lot and still does. I always used to have her dressed a layer or two lighter than other babies (and got a few dirty looks for it from time to time too LOL). She's always beenquite insensitive to temperature fluctuations and will run around the yard happily when it's 40 degrees in the same way as she was outside playing with the ice in the birdbath this morning (it was 2 degrees outside) in a short sleeved teeshirt. I get sick of hearing myself say "put a jumper and a coat on!"

By all means get it checked out with a GP if you're worried but I'd say it's probably normal. I'd be more worried if an unsweaty baby suddenly started as that would indicate night sweats and warrant more investigation kwim?

PS to all those mummies with sweaty babies - you will want to know this stinky foot remedy when your child is older. Simply soak the feet for 10 mins in a strong tea solution for 2 or 3 days in a row...the tannic acid in the tea hardens the skin and helps keep the stinky bacteria at bay!

Thank you for your advice. I will get DD check out in two weeks which would be her 9 month check up apointment. I personally don't think it's something serious... I guess it could just be that she's got a good metabolism. TBH, I felt so tired of people telling me I'm underdressing DD. LOL, they roll their eyes at me thinking I'm a bad mom.

She doesn't have sweaty feet though and hopefully it won't come when she grows older!

Carmen - Euan is a very sweaty baby, but then, we live in the tropics. Sometimes when he feeds his head actually drips.

It is important for us to make sure his fluids are kept up. I also noticed that when we went to Melbourne in winter (cold and little humidity), he wee'd a lot more, and he sweated less. But as long as his nappies are still wet and the wee is a light colour, then the sweating is not usually an issue, or an indication of anything wrong.

It's been awhile since our last email! I guess Euan and Nicky are similar to each other though we live in different parts of the world. In Quebec, Canada, some times it's so hot it goes up to around 30 degrees celsius... which is why I had to buy new air conditionners for my house since DD would just soak all day long. Since you mentioned about the weeing during winter time is more.. I have also noticed the same thing for DD. She would wee more during the winter and it's less during the summer hot days. When she does wee, it's quite a large amount. I guess bladder control is kicking in plus part of the sweat also explain the decreased amount in wee.

Both of mine were and are very sweaty. my daughter in particular. I think that whilst it isn't something found in ALL babies, it isn't uncommon. They do tend to grow out of it a bit as they get older, although some don't - but then it usually isn't a problem until the teenage years. if excessive does continue when they are older and it is causing problems (usually socially) then there are treatment options available.

I sure hope DD will grow out of this sweaty period. I can only imagine how much more laundry to do if she keeps it up this way and how uncomfortable it must be for her to be sweaty... As for now, I'm keeping the house well air conditionned while I feel like I'm living in a wintery house and it's smoking hot outside!
