I recently found out I am A negative blood type and my doctor told me I have to get an injection at 28 weeks to stop me from creating antibodies that could kill my baby. My husband's blood type is O negative, does this mean the injection isnt needed? Do I only need the injection if my husband was a positive blood group type or should I have it just to make sure my baby is okay?
From what I remember the fathers blood type is pretty much irrelevant. The shot is given in case you baby has positive blood, which can still happen I think even if you are both negative.
Im sure someone who has more of a clue will let you know more, but I belive it is done because the blood mingling will cause your body to respond by attacking the positive blood, iykwim.

If you and the baby's father are both negative then you dont need the injection. It does not matter what the letter is.
NO! It is NOT needed automatically.
The injection is needed ONLY if the baby has positive blood (if you and your DH are both Rh- then baby is also Rh-: this is a recessive gene, you'd need the baby's dad to be Rh+ to give the baby a chance at being Rh+ too) AND there is a situation where your bloods could mingle, such as if you fall and land on your tummy. Even then it isn't a given.
Don't accept anything like this "just because". It's actually a blood product so could contain all sorts of hidden nasties. It isn't even necessarily needed after birth; get them to check your blood for antibodies first. I had a VERY unprofessional midwife who refused to tell me the results of this and just gave me the injection - in fact, there were no antibodies found in my system immediately post-partum.
I'm against needless injections, btw. Just thought you may not have picked up on the bias LOL.

Yep - I agree. I am one of the rhesus negatives and so is DH. I have never had the anti-D injection and refuse to do so. It is a blood product that I do not require.
i had to have it after my pg and m/c as i am Rh - and DH is RH+. But i didnt have it until after i delivered and after my currett- not before hand.
if you are both negative you have no hope having a positive baby so no need to have the injection.
We ended up with my DD being negative like me and my DS being + .
