Placenta testing.
I wasn't sure if this is ther right place to post this or not.
I'm sorry if it isn't.
I was just wondering how many of you have had your placenta sent away for testing after birth, and if so do you ever hear anything back?
Just curious.
Thanks in advance.

Yep mine was sent away for testing, not because I requested it, but because I had an extra bit of placenta on my placenta! It was all ok though, just an extra bit. My ob gave me the results when I was still in hospital.

It is pretty standard for it to be sent to pathology... If you don't want this or you want it given back to you you can request that. Planting yours and your childs placenta under a tree can be a nice way to celebrate the birth connection you both had... :D

Oh ok. Thanks.
I'd never heard of it before.
I was thinking they sent my placenta away this time due to the birth and that jazz.
Blood was taken from the cord at the time too and I was told those results within an hour after he was born, but I just wondered if you're ever given any results from the placenta testing.

Generally placentas are only tested for specific reasons eg if liquor was smelly or placenta is smelly, extra bits, or other medical reasons needing testing.
A lot of hopsitals will take cord blood for research purposes and some hospitals have the cord blood collections for cord blood banks.

Thanks Feeb.
So It'd have something to do with the birth, etc.
Would be interesting to find out what the tests show.

You should be able to find out, i cant remmeber if you went public or private but either way you can ask.
If public when u go for 6 week check with GP ask them to call for report.
If private OB will have results at your 6 week check.

Public here.
Thanks again, Feeb.
