Cooper Miles enters the world via c-section.
Finally after a tiring pregnancy with many months of MS our baby boys EDD was approaching on the 09-07-08 and DH and i were so excited. At 6:00am on the 08-07 i woke with a startle and headed straight to the toilet as i felt a gush of water, being my first pregnancy i was not sure what to expect, but i did realise that my waters had broken and that i had lost my mucous plug, and i was quite calm and ready for what was to come. I woke up DH and then he went into panic mode so i called the hospital and they said to come in when ever i felt ready.
An hour or so later we arrived at the hospital and they cofirmed that my waters had broken then they hooked me up to the ctg machine to see if there was any action, i hoped that there was contractions but i wasn't feeling any thing (my mum did not have any pain at all during her labour with her two children so i hope i was going to follow in her foot steps), but unfortunately there was nothing exciting happening at all so the hospital sent me home because their labour ward was quite full, and told me to come back if i was having contractions, or they would call me if a bed became free, but if not then i still had to come back at 6pm to have an anti-biotic iv as my waters were broken, to prevent infection.
So after waiting around all day (with a million and one phone calles from all the rellies asking if there was any progress) for this little fella to show up nothing happened, we went back to hospital at 6:00 pm. My Ob came and visited me to let me know that they would be inducing me the next morning at 6:15am. However at around 6:30pm i started feeling contractions at different intervals and it wasn't until 7:30 that they finally put my iv in and it was then that i let the nurse know that i was getting contractions around 10 min apart, after DH finally got the nurses attention around 9pm i told her that my contractions were five minutes apart and coming on quite strong, and i asked for pain relief, the nurse then had a feel and was quite surprised when she saw that i was 5cm dilated, she gave me a shot of pethadine and finally moved me to a delivery suit.
After having the shot of pethadine i got pretty sick and was throwing up a lot and kept falling asleep in between contractions, i was pretty out of it from the pethadine, but by 12am on the 09-07 i had enough of the strong contractions and asked the midwife to check how far i was now and i was terrible disheartened when he said i was still only 5cm dialated, how ever with this information it was then i said well you better get me the epi, 1/2 an hour later my OB was there putting the epi in my back. DH tried to get some rest and so did i. (I didn't write up a birth plan because i didnt know what to expect i just thought i would see how i felt at the time)
At around 2 am the midwife came in to check on bub with the ctg but noticed that he was a bit distresses and that his HB was dropping, the midwife had a feel and said that he thought he could feel the cord around babys neck and he was going to get the OB, the OB the came and confirmed this and told me that they would have to do an emergency C/S, i was then wheeled to theatre and DH was taken and suited and i was prepared for surgery. At the time all that mattered was making sure our baby came into this world safely.
Finally at 3:04am on the 09-07-08 on his EDD Cooper Miles was born and the OB was extremely happy with his decision to do the C/S as not only was the cord around babys neck but his head was also tilted up instead of down. After little or no sleep for 24 hours DH and i were just glad to finally have DS in our arms. We got to see DS for 5min and DH got to hold him then DS was taken away to be put ina warmer and DH decided to stay with me whilst they stitched me up. It wasn't until an hour later that i got to hold my baby (which was a bit upsetting) but we were finally together as a family. And now it is all over i'm just glad we finally have him.
