10 minute day sleeps!
My little boy is 11 months now...and has started in the last week to have 10 minutes day sleeps!!!
He wakes crying and will in no way go back to sleep again...even if I sit and cuddle him for 40 minutes!
I've tried making his morning sleep later and then earlier..and nothing seems to help!
I'm sure he's tired when he wakes up...he yawns and has ++ little tantrums throughout the day!
Any ideas?

i'd be tempted to pop him in a sling for a while monnie and go for a walk outside in the fresh air. i do this with my ds when i'm having trouble getting him to sleep properly in the day and he usually drifts off for at least an hour or so.
-
I don't have any great suggestions Monnie........but I would be tempted to say that he'll grow out of it, it's probably just a phase! DS did that for awhile there, but it seems like a distant memory now LOL. A walk in the pram/sling always helped my sanity LOL whether or not it helped him to sleep ;).
Just a thought......is he perhaps overtired? I know DS sleeps reeeeeaaaally badly if he's past it by the time I put him down. It took me awhile to figure that out though
ETA Rainforest, I keep thinking I haven't seen you around, but it's just your name change testing me LOL! We should organise another meet up! Sorry to hijack Monnie :)

Thanks guys!
Yep...I think getting out for a walk would be a fantastic idea...pretty much rained all day today!
BUT...we did have some success...I'm not feeling so well so pretty much stayed on the couch all day and Felix slept on my chest for 2.5 hours this afternoon!
So yeah Janie...I think he is really overtired! His night time sleeps deteriorated recently but are slowly getting back on track again (2 night feeds instead of 3 or 4!!!)...so I'm sure he must be tired...I certainly am!
Anyway...I'm also wondering whether he's trying to tell me that he just needs one sleep a day! What do you think? Maybe it's worthwhile pushing his morning sleep back a bit and seeing what happens...
Janie...so lovely to hear from you. Hope DS is doing wonderfully!

It's worth a try hun! I keep thinking that my DS must be ready, but he soooo isn't. If we're out in the morning and he misses his morning sleep, he only goes down for 50-60 minutes at lunch time and that's it for the day!!!!!! Definitely not enough sleep. But if he does his normal thing, he has about an hour and fifteen minutes in the morning and about the same in the afternoon, sometimes a little less. So yeah, it looks like he's not ready yet.
But maybe Felix is? You'll know pretty quickly if it's not working. I guess you can only try, and if it doesn't work, then just wait it out.
Lovely to see you around too! Hope you're all going well :) (Apart from the lack of sleep ;))
-
Yep...all is going well...
Felix is a delight and I'm sure he will get the sleeping stuff sorted out some day! I'm trying not to get too caught up in it!
Can't believe he's 1 in a few weeks!!!
-
Yeah, I've adopted that attitude in recent times too.......he'll sleep one day LOL (I hope!!!) Life's too short to spend every day worrying about how many times he woke up overnight. and as I keep reminding myself, it's completely normal!
Wow, where did a year go????? I can't believe that! Are you having a little party? How's your house going?
-
Yeah...time truly does fly!
Yep..."completely normal"...though it's amazing how many people tell me "you really need to get onto this!" They are doing it with the best of intentions but I find I need to be careful not to let it get me all anxious about the whole thing! He'll get there!
I keep saying to myself "just as he's learning to walk and talk...he's also learning to sleep!"
Yep..we are going to have a little party! Should be fun! Did you have one for Nicholas?
If so, any tips?
-
Yep, we had a party with family, still almost 30 people  We had an afternoon tea, it was great fun :D
Um, tips...........have a big bag ready for all the wrapping paper LOL. Be organised before everyone arrives so you can then relax and enjoy your son's 1st birthday!
Hope you all have a lovely day :)

i have found in my experience as a home based carer/ nanny for the past 8 years (and a mum now too) from about 11 months to 14 months children move to having one sleep. i would recommend moving morning sleep forward by 15 mins each morning til u get to ideally 11.30/12 noon. if possible get out and about lots of playing helps see the morning thru then after lunch put DS to bed with perhaps a story/soft music so he knows it sleep time and try to re-settle if he wakes so he has a least an hour sleep for you. and for a short time until he stretches this sleep to an hour and a half /2 hours he may need a little nap around 3pm/4ish, but only let him sleep about 30mins and that way he's not too tired for dinner/bath time etc. it may take about 3 weeks to get into a pattern of changing from 2 to 1 sleeps. yes he will prob be a bit whingy once u start stretching him past his normal sleep time in the morning, i found going to a playgroup (and leaving a little early as mine finshed at 12) helped entertain the children, or park etc (be mindful thou of driving too far from home incase he falls alseep in car then lunch/sleep routine get a bit mixed up, i sometimes gave bigger morning tea then after sleep gave lunch). i think the 'perfect sleep routine' as suggested in some parenting sites say a mid-day sleep is from 11am-2pm (but i know very few people whose children do this - but, oh how nice it would be thou- so many more things i could do around the house if only DD had a 'perfect sleep routine') hope this is not too confusing as i'm getting a bit tired myself and going to bed... good luck, (you may have to change the time of the birthday party if his sleep patterns change b4 then, a friend of mine had their DS 1st birthday from 10-12noon, another friend started their DD party @ 3pm, more to think about, sorry)
