Is your toddler sleeping thru even though assisted to sleep?

MY DD (12mths) is not sleeping through the night - wakes 2-3 times. Sometime just putting dummy in is enough but generally once in the night needs resettling to get back to sleep.

To get her to sleep (all sleeps) we pat her until she is nearly asleep - ranges fro 30sec to a couple of minutes. I'm very comfortable at doing this but I would also like a full nights sleep (only had a half a dozen times in her life) so just wondering if it is possible for her to sleep through the night while still being assisted to sleep at the start.

I really don't want to do CC (which others in Mothers Group are encouraging me to do in the middle of the night coz it has worked for them).

My DD now feeds/rocks or pats to sleep at the beginning of the night. (She is 10 months) but sleeps 11-12 hours. I will admit this has only been going on for a week. Who knows what next week will bring!
So i think it is possible. I did stop feeding her overnight which helped with the self settling during the night. Sometimes though she wakes and needs a little pat back to sleep. It's not often now she needs picking up. To get her out of that habit i employed DH to do the overnight settling. It worked really well.

Hmmm.. the toddler in this house still wakes up several times a night... is there such a thing as sleeping through a whole night? LOL

He is often bothered with colds/flu, or his teeth though, so this disrupts him more than anything.

Although the first time we ever put him in a cloth nappy overnight he slept through... coincidence I think... LOL

So no real words of wisdom here, but I know I would definitely like a full nights sleep too..

Nope, my DD is 15mths and still wakes between 1-4 (at least) times a night, usually 2 times. She needs a bottle to get back to sleep at least once a night. Sometimes just a dummy, usually a cuddle and rock back to sleep.
I am trying to be patient and was hoping by this stage (before baby comes!) she'd be sleeping through or at least easier to settle. I will not use any kind of controlled crying so I am just in for some really sleepless nights! In the long run it's only for a year or two of my life so I jsut have to try to get over it!

Oskar is still assisted to sleep for the most part. I feed him and he's quite drowsy then he's put to bed and sleeps through most of the time. So, yes it can work but will depend on bub. If you don't feel comfy doing CC then just let the mums know that you appreciate the input but don't want to go down that path?? I'm not one for it myself so I think I would say something if it was me.

DS needs patting to sleep most nights (sometimes he self-settles, sometimes he needs to just hold hands) and sleeps through about 80% of the time - sometimes he self-settles quickly if he does wake too. He has started waking up when the chap upstairs goes to bed; he is LOUD and I'm going to have words with him when I see him. But he was a nightmare before I took him to the homeopath.

Whilst I am against CCing, I have found if I'm trying to get DS off to sleep all night (like last night, a thunderstorm disturbed him so he was fretful all night) and it gets to 5am, I'm shattered and DS wants to play, I leave him to it. He does cry (well, bleat and chatter if I'm being honest) for a couple of minutes then sleeps. But pre-homeopathy he would cry for hours. This sometimes becomes the only option because otherwise I scream at him and want to hit him; when you're patting someone to sleep you can't want to hit them. Then I'm in a mood with DS all the next day too and DH really cops it. It is the lesser evil and I think he sometimes prefers to go to sleep alone. I really don't like it though. I think it's better to do this though and he does sleep and sleep well NOW with it, but before he wouldn't so it is also dependent on the child. Some children whinge/talk to sleep, some children scream and won't sleep, both are often classed as CCing.

Yes, 90% of the time, but only since he moved into his big boy's bed, with a pillow. We moved him at 18 months because we were still rocking him to sleep and I was still having to get up in the night to breastfeed him back to sleep. We figured if it all turned to hell we'd just move him back to his cot...but we were thinking "how much worse can it be?"

Well, he slept through on the second night. He is now 22 months. Sometimes he might wake up about 5am but we just bring him into bed with us and he will go back to sleep for another hour or so, cuddled up with Mummy.

Now Daddy just lies on the bed with him while his sleepy CD (Music for Dreaming) plays and he is asleep in less than 10 minutes. In the last week he has suddenly adopted a cuddly toy to take to bed with him so that goes too...and we are hoping that this might be a good time to end Daddy lying on the bed (but Daddy likes it, so who knows??)

DS is two in October and he still wakes up at least once, often twice.
I breastfeed him back to sleep because I am lazy :lol:

LOL Tobily.... we give Jovie a bottle of rice milk because she refuses to bf anymore, but I wish she would!!! Jovie is 20 months and wakes at least once overnight.... we thought things were great only waking once ;) Matilda at this age was still getting up 2-3 times at night.

I honestly think its the child as well. Matilda was up heaps more than Jovie ever has been. Both have come into our beds & slept with us once they wake up, or we lay with them in their beds and then get up if we can to get back into our bed. Most times Jovie prefers to sleep in her bed, so we go back to hers. Matilda prefers to sleep in our bed when she wakes up and thats fine too. She's 4 and still wakes but not as often and not everynight.

Caty sleeps through (she's 20 months). For a while there she'd wake crying in the night and I'd put her dummy back in which would settle her, but then I just stopped getting up (I'm 38 weeks pregnant) and didn't have the heart to wake DH up (poor form I know!) and she's stopped waking (it took about 5 nights of hearing her cry for a bit - maybe 5 min of it?).

Not sure if it's because I've stopped going in so she doesn't expect me, or whether we put a woolen blanket under her top sheet and she's warmer. I think it's a mixture of both (or 49% me not going in and 51% with her being warmer!).
