I'm so tired. Why won't he stop?

I posted a few days ago about Jesse being really unsettled.

Well he had a good night that night. Really good. But yesterday he was still unsettled & today he just hasn't stopped crying.

I tried to put him to sleep this morning, but it took 2 hours & he only slept for 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure he was really over tired.

He slept for about half an hour at about 2.30, then at about 4 fell asleep for about an hour.

He hasn't been feeding that great. When I try to feed him, he'll have a bit then bite me as if he's finished. But he cries when I take it out of his mouth. & he doesn't really seem hungry, just wants it for comfort.

He has been startling really easy all day. I mean REALLY easy. Every time someone talks or moves.

He doesn't have any teething symptoms.

His temp is 38.0

He's been crying non stop in stead of just grizzling - screaming for about an hour.

What should I do?

have you tried a warm bath? you poor thing :(

I did give him a bath at about lunchtime.

He's asleep on me now, & I took his jumper off. I'm not game to put him down.

The bath at lunch was good while he was in it, but as soon as he got out he started again.

Oh hun! i have no advice just lots of hugs! Hope he settles for you soon!

have you tried some panadol? and maybe a cuddle with mummy on the bed or couch (depends on other kids though )

Well he slept for about 10 minutes. Long enough for me to get in the shower. He woke up screaming, so I had to get out coz DH doesn't handle it to well. He tried though.

I'm going to try panadol & put him to bed. Even in our bed, I don't care I just want him to get some sleep.

you poor thing u...obviously something is not happy with him...see how the pandol goes and keep a check on his temp if ur really worried maybe take him to the dr

I don't have much more advice; I think that you have been doing the best course action so far.
If you are getting really concerned (which is fair enough!) take him to the drs. with a temp of 38 plus his distress it might be a good idea for peace of mind. and even if you get concerned in the middle of the night it doesn't matter, take him down to the hossy. we took DD one night and they assessed her in triage and pointed us in the direction of the GP that worked there. we were in and out in 30 minutes and feeling 100% relieved.

Well I just gave him the panadol. He spat most of it back out, but hopefully swallowed enough to help.
He's in his cot now, awake & not crying. I think he might just be too tired now.

I was thinking about going up to the hospital, but I feel silly when I get sent home with nothing wrong. I know that it doesn't matter - being my 3rd I've been to many hospitals to be sent home again! Its really the startle thing thats got me most worried. Maybe its just coz he's so upset, but neither of my girls were doing it at his age from what I remember.

He is wrapped, so hopefully that'll help him sleep along with the panadol, but he's been doing the startle thing for no reason like a newborn does when not wrapped.

Go with your gut feeling. If you think you need to take him to hossy, then do that. He may have a sore throat? Oskar was not much older and got a sore throat which ended up turning into bronchialitis which was not fun. They are little and a simple sore throat can progress to more faster than with us adults. I hope that he is ok - let us know how he goes.

Although it is probably nothing it wouldn't be a bad idea to get him checked out. I wonder if the startle thing could be a bit of light sensitivity or something. With the temp etc. I think it is worth checking out. Don't worry about being sent home again. After all we pay for hospitals to be able to use them. Or you can call a health line. There is one in QLD but not sure about the other states.

Well his temp stayed at 38.1 most of the night. He hardly slept, kept waking up screaming. I think I will take him this morning. I just got a full dose of panadol into him & his temp now is 36.0.

He slept in a t-shirt suit thing just with a cot sized polar fleece blanket around him & was still sweating. I slept in long pants & long sleeved shirt with a doona & was cold, so it wasn't that warm in here.
He's sweating now even though his temp is down so far.

He's ok right now. The girls are jumping around trying to make him happy & he's grinning away - panadol I guess - but when it starts again,I'm going to get him checked.
He screams as if he's in pain & won't take the boob, or the dummy. Doesn't have red cheeks, or anything on his gums to make me think he's teething. I did try teething gel last night, but it didn't make a difference.

Sweating is good IMO.. My kids will be sick with or without temps and then one night they will sweat so much they soak thier beds and BOOM they wake up good as gold the next day.. I hope this is the same for you

Me too, but not yet. He was worse this morning. He had the panadol about an hour ago & is already getting wingy again.

It might be time for the Drs... just my opinion of course.. But it can't hurt to go see a Dr.. He might have a sore ear.. I took DD to the Dr last week cus she had gunky eyes but she also had a red ear. She had been pulling it but not enough for me to go oh her ear must be sore..
