advice is it early labour??

someone pls give me some advice!!! im really confused ive been told from the beginning of my pregnancy i would have to have a c sec this time as i did last time, today at 34 weeks ive seen a different doctor to what i thought was a appoitment to arrange c sec. he done an internal examination and said my cervix was short and open as he could feel the waters also.But on my notes it said cervix 2cm long?? he said you dont have to have a c sec at all just because of last time, although i heamrreaged last time and he didnt have my notes so i was concerned! but also im very pleased about but just scared i will try for natural delivery then end up emergency c sec again, which i def dont want! he said IF i havent gone into labour by 38 weeks i can be induced, ive been soooo ill this pregnancy so to get bubba out at 38 weeks is such a relief. ive been getting on and off contractions irregular for a week or to and severe pressure down below, he said her heads right down and boy can i feel it! today ive got back pain, and shooting pains down my legs, and major tightnings that are very uncomfortable but not to painful feel like a period pain, this is my 3rd so i should know what a contraction pain is but as its been going on for weeks its obviously not labour! my consultant said he thinks i wont be long as im early to be having a short and open cervix, do you think my baby is likely to show an early apperance? any one else had simular situation? would really appreciate answers xx

Sounds to me that you are having braxton hicks contractions. Just your body preparing itself for birth.

I am not sure about your cervix question. I have only had the one child so far, so maybe it is normal to be like it is seeing it is your 3rd...? Hopefully someone else can ease your mind on that one.

Hi Lou - I have heard and have also been told after having a c/s you shouldnt get induced. I am sure a few of the ladies on here will say the same. Also having an epidural is something that should be avoided after having a c/s. If someone could back me up on this one too it would be greatly appreciated as it was the first I heard of that after having already having 4kids and onto my 5th. Great place BB is, I wouldnt have known if I didnt come on here. Anyway I am sure someone will clarify it if I am wrong, yet I also think it would be upto the hospital and their procedures with either procedure.
When are you having your next hossy appointment, as I would talk to the Dr's again about what this Dr had mentioned to you just so you have another opinion. I find I get different answers from different Dr's. :hug: Also Goodluck with everything hun.
Ohh I also understand your fear of going thru labour again and ending up with another c/s. It also happened to me with my 3rd, which was my 1st c/s.

I have never got to the 34 week mark but what you are describing to me sounds like early labour but then could just be strong BH. If you are concerned then go to the hospital and get checked by someone.

In regards to induction or epi after C sec, my ob said that there was no problem with either as they (my hospital) monitor the baby the whole time. If there is a problem with bub they can do an emergency C if needed. Check to see what your hospitals processes are for VBAC though as they all differ.

After having an emergency C with my daughter, I personally couldn't careless if I had another (even knowing the painful recovery) providing my child was ok. I will never again get my heart set on a birth plan because things don't always work out the way we want and the baby's safety should always come first.

I had a c section with my first baby an emergency then on my second a vbac I went in to labour my self but with my last baby I was induced with the drip first and they broke my waters took them ages to do that. mind you they did turn off the drip as i respond to quickly to it but they watch you so closely and I didnt have a epidural they would have given me one but I said no plus the closer I get to delivery I get the pain on only one side low down so they were worried about the scar turns out baby was just very close to delivery I was 2 hours and 15 minutes from start to finish had a little tear but felt great after wards. Ill have to be induced this baby as well I have GD on insulin

sorry off track a bit there but I had those pain your describing on my last pregnancy and I was admitted at 32 weeks and given steriods for the baby lungs i was checked and was 2 cm and 80% efaced I had those pains on and off the whole way through till I was admitted at 38 weeks my doctor said it was early labour and if nothing happened before they induced me it would mean I would deliver very quick which I did in the end also she did say that if my waters broke to get in as quick as possible as soon as mine go thats it baby comes very quick after

Im nearly 37 weeks now and have been having those same pains tops of legs lower pain in tummy and tightening so hard it stops me from walking and the pain in my back I had a scan about 5 weeks ago now and my cervix was very short 1.6 so I guess its the same or shorter now the thoughts of feeling this uncomfortable for the next few weeks is a killer


I dont think there is any reason why you shouldnt try for a vbac esp as it seems your body is preparing for it I know my self ild like to try but if i ended in a c section so be it as naenae says a healthy baby is most important :hug:

may be that nice doc will do a sweep to get things going or try some reflexolgy or acupunture I tried that on my second and it worked good luck sorry if i went off track a little think I have been reading to many replies today :):hug:
