Whats the best way of finding out about maternity leave?

I am just wondering how you go about finding out about maternity leave entitlements?

I am a dental practice manager and am unsure as to how to get an answer from someone. The dental association is pretty darn good at screwing us assistants over any chance they get and they seem to make getting any answers re entitlements of any kind really hard.

I'm only 10 weeks but I want to sort all of this out as soon as possible.

Hi Cindy,

How long have you been working there? Is it a privately run practice? Or public sector? Do you know if you have a Work Place Agreement? Have you had a look in your original Terms and Conditions of Employment?

The government have set down legislation which entitles parents to a total of 52 weeks unpaid leave (on a shared basis, so apart from a week at birth, you have to take the leave separately) to care for their newborn.
