Turning a transverse/breech baby?

Ok this is a saga that doesn't seem to be changing at each visit. Since my u/s at 20 weeks my little man has been either breech or transverse, I know that it's not a problem in the early stages but as I'm nearing 31 weeks I'm slowly running out of time to try and turn him.

He is laying transverse still as of yesterday with his bum closer down on the left side and his head up near my right side ribs and he's been like this for 4 weeks already. I'm start to panic as I really am terrified of a c/s and this seems to be the way things are heading.

I've been to spinning babies but my computer won't download the pics and I can't find the info very easy to follow, so I was wondering if anyone has any helpful tips to give me to try and turn my stubborn little man.

Hi Amanda, you can try this thread here... it's a sticky in 3rd trimester. You can also sit on those round gym balls, stand leaning over kitchen bench and rotate your hips slowly, on all fours on the floor and gently rock pelvis back and forth... so you would be kinda arching your back up then down if that makes sense. Ummm.... also try NOT to sit leaning back on the lounge, try to sit maybe with legs apart and belly in middle and straight if not slightly forward, this is why the gym ball is good ;) HTH and I hope that bubs turns for you soon.

When I was pregnant with Abbey I had the same issues. Apparently because your uterus is so much more stretched after being pregnant so many times, there is alot more room in there. This means that bub is free to move around a hell of a lot more. Over the space of a week Abbey went from head down, to breach, to posterior and transverse. She was everywhere.

Abbey finally went head down for good around 34 weeks and she was born at 37 weeks.

Spinning babies is a good site to look at. You will find a bit of info on there but yes, some of their ideas are alittle hard to follow at first.

I tried inversions which worked for me. What I did was lay on the floor with my bum up on the lounge and my shoulders and head on a pillow on the floor. Yes, very uncomfortable, but it worked. The idea is that bub doesn't like falling up to your chest, not as much space so he will spin around. You can also try lying your ironing board on the lounge, the other end on the floor and laying on it. Head to the floor, feet up the top. Make sure you have someone to help you out though, jic you get stuck there.

You can also use acupuncture/moxibustion to help shift bub too. I wouldn't stress too much just yet. You still have a few weeks before you really need to worry about bubs positioning.

The one I've heard most is get down on your hands & knees & scrub the floor.
If I were you I'd give it a few weeks though. You don't want to do all that work to get bub head down to have him turn again a week later.
Maybe give your little ones piggy back rides. Not a good idea, but I spent a bit of time everynight on my hands & knees to get DS into position & DD2 was always sitting on my back. I just never moved.
The exercise ball is a good idea too.
I also filled my bath right up & layed belly down in the water over the end of the bath. That way I kinda floated there. I have a good sized bath though!

I wouldn't worry yet. My youngest ds was still transverse at 38 weeks and I went to have him moved by the doctor and he was head down but when I stood up he moved back into the transverse position. The doctor was not happy lol. He ended up head down by himself a couple of days later and I was induced to make sure he stayed there.

When he was born we understood why he liked being transverse. He was 9lb 12oz, 57cm long with a 38cm head. Being sideways gave him more room lol.

Don't stress as they can actually turn even during labour. If your bubs is still breech try to find a doctor who will let you give birth naturally anyway. It doesn't necessarily have to mean a c/s for you even if you have to fight to have a natural birth.

Acupuncture and Shiatsu can work wonders for turning breech and transverse bubs. I've seen this work many, many times, safely and often pretty quickly. It is definitely worth considering.
