TTC after having prem
Hi guys,
I know this isn't exaclty the right spot for this, but you guys will hopefully be able to help me through this.
Have any of you gone on to have full term babies or have decided that what you have is enough?
I am hoping to start TTC this month, but I'm still quite nervous and scared over the whole thing. I'm not sure whether I would be able to handle a pre-term birth as well as I did with Brendan, I know too much now, where as with Brendan I knew nothing.
How have you coped with the thought of having another?
Any thoughts would be muchly appreciated

Brendansmum, I had a prem baby for my 1st aswell, she was born at 32 weeks and I can understand how hard mentally, physically and emotionally it was. There was no reason why I came early so I was terrified to fall pregnant again incase I had to go through it all again (which I would of anyway as it was well worth it)! But here I am 38 weeks pregnant with my 2nd!!!!!!!!!! So there is hope that we can go on to have full term babies......actually I am booked in for c section on the 21st as this baby is too big for me to birth. Please be confident and positive as there is hope that we can go on to a 'normal' prengancy and birth. I have to say this has been the LONGEST pregnancy for me as I was prepared to come early so I had everything ready to go at 26 weeks!! And I am still here. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!! All the best!!

Hi Joss, thanks for the positive message, I'm really glad you've made it to term this time! well done!!! Why did your DD come early (if you dont mind me asking)?
My waters broke at 28wks with Brendan, which along with my previous records the drs have said I've got more of a chance going early, they just dont know how early.

BRENDANSMUM Thanks so much for posting this.... I am replying to your thread from my hospital bed as my waters broke on Wednesday morning (31wk+1d). This is my first bub & I really want 2. I am already wondering whether I will put myself through this again. I know they say the chances are high of having another prem.
JOSS You have given us hope. It's fantastic how far you've come. Congratulations

Brendansmum, they don't know why I came early?? There was no medical reason why I did, I just did. Although I was a prem baby aswell and so was my brother so I was expecting to come early again with this pregnancy. I was given a 90% chance of coming early again but we didn't know how early either. I am just letting you know, the doctors do not know exactly if you will come early again so if you keep thinking positive then everything will work out!! Good Luck!!

Georgi, Congratulations and I hope you keep on board :D I lasted 2 weeks after my waters broke and I know of another lady how had twins she lasted almost 7 weeks!! Good luck and all the best.
Joss, oh thank you so much! I really appreciate your posts! It's helped alot, thank you.

BREDANSMUM The Ob has given me a max of 2weeks, but I had an ultra sound yesterday which showed my cervix is tightly closed so I'm hoping that will help me hold out a little longer. Thanks for your wishes.
JOSS your post has helped me alot too.

Georgi, you've made it through the first 24hrs which in itself is a huge achievement! At least now the steroids (which I'm assuming they would have given you) will have chance to help bubs. All the best.

I had my first at 34w, my second was NINE DAYS LATE after the docs promised me he'd be delivered by 32w because I'd be lucky to get that far...
It depends mostly on the reason for your premmie. Mine was pre-eclampsia, so when I had it with pg #2 as well as pg #3 then they were pretty sure he'd be early... BUT he wasn't!

Hi,
My OB told me that with every birth there is a 5-10% chance of the baby being born prem (before 37 weeks). We don't know why DS came early - in fact I had a growth and development scan less than 48hrs before he was born and my cervix was still 3cm long and his head wasn't engaged. My OB told me that my next pregnancy I would have double the chance of having a prem. So she said although there was possibly a 20% chance of going early there was an 80% chance that I wouldn't.

My DS was born 33weeks when i had premature water breaking...well actually he gave me a monster kick and broke them...anyway DD was born at 38 weeks even though i was told i had a 90% chance of having another prem.

morgan we are similar my first was born at 33wks from ruptured membranes and my second was born at 38weeks!
my OB told me first time happening was 5% chance. then for second time my chances increase to 20% same as what principessa said.
-
Thanks girls :D
I have a history of not making it very far, 3 M/C's and 1 premature birth. My last M/C at 17wks, was very similar to Brendan... except I got the infection before my waters broke. The dr's have told me i am taking a huge risk because of my history, but have also said with the right care and a good OB I can get through it.
I guess we will just have to wait and see!!
Thanks again Ladies

Sally.. I think you're right, get the right Ob & the right care. Good luck with it, from what the other ladies have posted it looks like a good chance of everything being fine.

Hey, I've been watching this thread...
Had my 6 week @ 8 weeks check yesterday with my OB, there was no reason for the PPROM that could be found there were no infections with me, Nakita or the placenta, everything was in perfect working order.
Next time.. and there will be a next time I hope.. I will be monitored from 26-27 weeks as there is a 33% chance of it occurring again within a two week window of this PPROM (so between 31-35 weeks).
It is interesting to see what all the OB's say, either way we are at a greater risk of it happening again. But as long as you are monitored more closely, hopefully there can be a way to prevent it from progressing, although I don't like me chances as my labour progressed very quickly after the membranes ruptured. At least my OB went through what could be done and we will be just watching closer for any sign of impending labour.

Hi Brendansmum,
Just noticed a BFP in your sig - congrats thats wonderful news. Please let me know if you are keepping blog or something similar with you new pregancy I hope it sticks full term for you.
I am interested in keeping up to date with how you are traveling etc as it won't be too long before hubby and I start TTC again.
If you don't know her story our baby girl Nikita was born 24 weeks plus 1 day but sadly got an infection and died a week later. We're nearing the "its ok to try again" time and I am terrified I will go into pre term labour again.
Please let me know as I am interested to see how others in the same boat go from conception to birth.
Guess its kind of like motivation that there are success stories out there IYKWIM
cheers

dont know ifit helps but i got tld theres alot more chance of having another premmie if you get pregnant within the first 12 mths. my second was a 35 wk but as she didnt go into nursery didnt hink much of it as she was 5-9 my first was 39 wks and my last was a 30wkr 3-6pnd as well but i will be trying for another soon but i think mine was coz i get uite large for eg at 8wk my whole uterus sits up above my pubic bone 12wks at my belly button 20 weeks 28cm 28wks 36cm but with my last the placenta was purple and white and all chunky so but i think that was coz i took alot of diaretics(sorry bout the spelling) but at least he was out in 15 min and i didnt feel him coming so that made up for the constant pain from 4 mths.
good luck to everyone trying its a hard road but there will be hope and when you have the baby at the end it will be worth it nomatter what the size..i know id go through it again
