New born covers

Ok so i am slowly building up the mcn's for this bub but i am finding it a little hard to find wool and pul covers for a newborn. Where can i buy them?

I have so far got 2 minkies from Maz and 1 pul from Bummis. BBH covers start at small - will these be too big for a new born?

How many covers do i really need and how long are they in newborn sizes for anyway. If i use small will they leak?

I plan to use spossies for a few weeks while i get my head around just being a new mum and trial my MCN's to see what works for us before switching to MCN's f/t.

I have a Bummi's newborn one and a motherease x-small that I am using at the moment. Depends what nappy I am putting on her first as to whether the cover fits over it. Some of the bigger nappies its a struggle to fit the newborn covers over her (and she's not a teeny tiny bub either). I think I could probably fit a small on her because its all velcro and adjustable to their size anyway :)

Oh and no leaks so far either (although have had leaks with other MCN's.. )

I got my motherease from Nip naps but I think most of the other places like nurture nappies or darlings downunder might have them as well.

I might just get one more Bummis newborn size and then some small sizes. I am a complete tool Mel - i got the bummis one from nuture nappies - der lol. Baby brain.

I'm a fan of Motherease Rikki covers. We've got smalls. Unless your bub is tiny, you won't need tooo many XS covers, my first (9lb4oz) fit them for about 1-2 weeks, my second (7lb9oz) a bit longer than that.

Not a fan of wool on newborns, some people like it, but I find that wool works using evaporation, and because a young baby just lies in the same spot all the time, wool isn't too effective, you get compression leaks. Fleece has similar properties to wool, but is a bit less susceptible to compression problems. This is just my experience though, I'm sure there are people who use wool/fleece with no worries.

Really? The newborn covers don't fit over flats? And your baby is quite small. I have normal terry flats and fleecy cotton flats which are thinner, I was just about to order 4 covers so this could be invaluable information.

I was thinking motherease and Tot Bots, would small (rather than extra small) be good over flats on a newborn?

Kuraiza - I'm pretty sure I used my motherease cover over flats - and i think i only have the x-small one. I think its pretty big myself!!! it was a tight fit.. but it did it!!! lol... but I have also used my small bummis one... that fits better.... ;)

ETA - but motherease covers are THE BOMB.. I'm going to buy another one just cos I love to use it sooo much!!!

I used the Bummis NB and Motherease rikki when Jake was a NB. These were the best fits! i'm with Nelle on the wool and NB, plus it is just so uber bulky on them too. I have BBH PUL and I still am using them at 6mo and 7kg! So these were great value, although I didn't use them until maybe around 6-8wks. HTH

You try to do all the right things ... I can't fit my baby in my peanut shell sling when he's wearing cloth nappies and their covers because he can't bend at the waist, the covers dig in to his belly and make him cry in agony.

I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle. He doesn't sleep during the day, he wants to be with me or he cries, I can't fit him in my sling, I can't put him down for 5 seconds or he cries, I'm in my pyjamas all day because I can't have a shower ... I don't have time for lunch. This is stupid!!!

How bout some fleecy covers instead of PUL? they are much softer on their skin and he may not mind them as much.

With the shower thing - I'd take him in the shower with you ;)

And I can't believe you can't fit a clothy bum in a sling!!! Hmmm.. more sling shopping for someone I'm betting ;)

I bought a thirsties xs which looks like it would work well for a newborn. It has leg gussets too to catch those poosplosions! I also bought the Tots Bots size 1 (since they are meant to fit from 4.5kgs and DS was 4.1 at birth) but I think I will steer clear of those for a while - they are massive! I was lured by the stars ans spots...

Oh, and on the sling thing - I found pouch style slings weren't the best for cloth bums. I bought a baba sling and never looked back though. I could never get DS to sit the right way in the pouch one - it was just too uncomfortable for both of us.
