if you have cooked it and it is in the fridge - just make sure you reheat it to steaming and eat within 24 hrs
I still eat deli ham - just hot (ie toasted sanga pizza etc). never cold
well the stuff i am thinking about you buy cold and usually just cut it off the bone and eat it cold too. (could heat it up i suppose).
me personally would even touch it unless it was cooked and hot. Its just my opinion and i dont think its worth the worry afterwards.
I have eaten it... and am still alive :P ate it with my other two aswell.. and there is nothing wrong with them or me....
I'm pretty sure I ate it at Christmas time when I was pg.
Things turned out fine for me.
Good luck and I hope you're having a great pg!
I know so many people say - I ate it and I am fine and so is my baby - but realistically it is a roll of the dice - what if one time you did and contracted listeria or something - I think when you weigh up your options for 8 months of eating - is it worth taking any risks?
It is a bit of listeria hysteria - but it is a very real risk.
Gosh, I've eaten heaps of ham!!! Whoops,....
I've been eating ham off the bone all throughout this pregnancy and haven't had any problems - I think as long as it's fresh you're fine.
I've also eaten a lot of cream cheese. Cravings are cravings.
Cream cheese is fine - I'm certain. I think the prob with ham is when they sit in the deli and you don't know how long for. If you were to cook your own ham for Chrsitmas and eat that it would be fine - fresh of course. Or like the others said - deli meats .ie salami are okay if cooked like on a pizza - my ob told me that.
It definietly has to be hot first - and don't trust that someone else has cooked it.
If you cook it yourself and eat within 24 hours it should be fine.
The stats for getting listeria are very low with eveyone however it is a risk.
With the cheeses etc anything pasturised is fine - otherwise eat it very hot! mmm hot brie!
Ham off the bone is the same risk as any other deli meat.
I wouldn't eat it (unless it was hot, say on pizza).
The risk of listeria is pretty small but it does still happen. Remember that you usually don't get any symptoms (and if you do they are usually cold like, not gastro like) so you probably wouldn't know if you had it. It can stay in your body a long time (I think 70 days) so it can create a problem for you well after you ingested it.
My baby spent 5 days in special care due to an unknown infection that set in soon after birth. Probably would've been something he was exposed to during the birth. I cannot tell you how stressful those 5 days were. You can never be too careful as far as I'm concerned.
