Sick and not eating
Her ears are infected, her nose and eyes are leaking green goop.
Went to the docs, got the diagnosis, the script for ABs and instructions to give paracetamol 4-hourly, as she's in a fair amount of discomfort.
I get that she feels wretched. I feel awful for her, and I'm trying to be as gentle and cuddly as I can.
But she wont eat anything, its a fight to get the Panadol into her, she'll only have a swallow of water if its in a 'big girl' cup (and it is mostly backwashed back in there again) and surprisingly she took in about half a cup of milk before falling asleep a couple of hours ago, but not lunch.
Does she need to be eating more if she's on all this medication??? She had breakfast this morning, so it wasn't something I was concerned about when we went to the drs.
TIA for your help.

As long as she is getting plenty of fluids and is not dehydrated, then a couple of days with minimal food shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Courtney. How do I know what enough fluids is?
Got her to eat a couple of spoonsful of pureed fruit this arvo, so that's eased my mind some.

When kids are sick fluids is more important then food so my GP always says. Does she eat jelly and gels etc? Maybe if she does see if that helps....its somethign at least...maybe not filling though
Is she having lots of wet nappies?

we had a trip to hsp last week cos my DS had a virus & decided not to drink anything (even BM!). They gave us a syringe & some blackcurrent gastrolyte (like you get from the chemist) & got us to give him 5ml every 5 minutes. THis is very labour intensive, so I wouldn't suggest you do it with your DD in quite this format, but I did find that DS became quite keen on the flavour so was happy to drink it pretty much every time it was offered. If your DD is still off her food tomorrow, offering small amounts of it until she gets a taste for bigger amounts might be a way to make sure she doesn't dehydrate. The syringe seemed to add a novelty value not found in a normal cup. Hope she feels better soon, it's no fun with a sick bub.

Thanks Kim, yeah it doesn't seem like she's too worried about being full. She hasn't eaten gels in a while, but it'd be worth a try, I reckon.
Nappy changes were about on par with normal today (except that she didn't have any pooey ones) - she's in cloth so its easy to tell when she's weed, they just weren't as wet as they'd normally be.
Thanks BhoysMum, I will keep the gastrolyte in mind for tomorrow if she's still not getting anything into her.

You can buy gastrolyte iceblocks too which is good when they have a fever.

 Hi Amy. Sorry to hear Natalie is still sick. You can get re-dehydrate ice blocks from the chemist which are meant to be good. I hope she gets better soon.

Thanks, girls - we're doing better today. Haven't had a chance to try any of those things as I haven't had a car today.
Just as well the ABs are working really quickly. Thanks again for the advice - that was the sickest she's ever been before, I think.
